Rocky Mountain Restoration Arvada Colorado - not to be confused with several other companies with same or similar names

Rocky Mountain Restoration is a relatively new business that offers, among other services, hail repair.  They offer a free estimate.   However, I never received an estimate for roof replacement, they simply took the insurance adjusters worksheet and said the bill would be for the insurance check.  RMR did walk around the yard pointing out "other damage" that they would bill to the insurance company.  And RMR subsequently billed me for that "inspection".  I told them I only wanted them to replace the shingles, the other damage: siding, gutters, windows and screens, would be handled by the contractor that had installed them less than a year earlier.  Shortly I was contacted by the insurance company saying that RMR had billed a 20% surcharge for the whole job saying they, RMR, were the general contractor for all repairs.  I informed the insurance company that RMR was only replacing the roof and was not the general contractor - that was me.

RMR, like all roofing contractors, hired a crew of roofers to complete the replacement and like most 3rd party employees they did an acceptable job.  They did install 2 additional roof vents, which I had already declined, on a section of vaulted roof that had no free air to vent.  Some additional repair work amounted to spray painting pipes that extended out of the roof.

Billing was handled by yet another contracted company.  That entity simply said "send me the insurance check".  The insurance settlement included all of the home repairs, so I requested an itemized bill.   After several back and forths I eventually received a bill, but not itemized.  I paid the bill.

Following some bad weather, I had an opportunity to inspect the job from the ground.  I could see a repair that had not been completed, so I climbed onto the roof to inspect the whole job.  The insurance company had included all repairs on the roof in one section of the settlement.  The settlement included replacement of a roof window, the fireplace chimney chase cover, furnace vent, and other itemized replacements.  RMR billed for all items the insurance company had included as roof repairs.  There were about $1500 worth of repairs that had been paid for but had not been completed.  I contacted RMR, they visited my home and agreed that my assessment was correct.  However, when I requested a refund for the over payment, it never came.

I filed a complaint with the BBB and was notified after 6 weeks that RMR had not responded to two contacts and "this case has now been closed as an UNANSWERED complaint in their file".  I could have made this a very short review by just saying that RMR is an unsavory company.  But I think it is better for the reader to have the background and be able to draw your own conclusion.
