We needed to have our septic pumped out. Searched online and Rooter Plus came up advertising $150.00 for 1000 gal. tank. We had no idea what size our tank since we've never had this done and were clueless about this type of work or costs associated with it. They said if the tank was 1500 gal. it would cost $250.00.
They arrived shortly after the call and began working. Using a tractor to remove the dirt over the septic, he opened the tank cover and said we had major problems. He went to his truck to work up estimate and came back with $2933.56! WHAT?! We were shocked and blown away with this quote. We were told if we didn't get this work done it would back up into our home. He said this was necessary work which he didn't even offer a breakdown of what he was doing. Our $250 job had just turned into almost $3,000.00!
I should have immediately done some research online, but did not. It was evening by now, about 6:30 pm and they had torn up the yard and we felt stuck. Asked if any way to do this job cheaper and he said if we paid cash, they would offer a 10% discount. We felt sick doing this but truly thought the guy was being honest and this was our ONLY option. Got the work completed within an hour or so and we ended up paying him $2640.20 cash.

The next day I did some research calling other companies and didn't take long to realize we were grossly taken advantage of! One company told me the absolute most he would have charged was $350 when I explained everything the guy said and went over everything on the invoice. I have a few companies tell me for approximately $2700, we could have gotten a BRAND NEW septic tank and lines installed. He mentioned it's companies like this that are ruining other companies' credibility! If I had paid by check or credit card, I would have stopped payment immediatly!
I was very upset by what I learned talking with other Septic Companies and also saw numerous complaints online about Rooter Plus and them gouging people and charging astronomical pricing to those unsuspecting homeowners. Again, we were not familiar with septic systems, pricing or what is involved. So when tech, Kris H. told us this was the cost and if we didn't do this, we would be having sewage backing up into our home plus the backyard was tore up and septic system exposed. I called Rooter Plus and spoke to Sean, Septic Manager, told him everything that happened and something needs to be done about this. He stated he needed to speak with other manager and they will call me next day.

So I called Rooter Plus and Sean was not available. I did some digging and found out the owner is Gary Jeffers. I called back and spoke to Gary. He insisted they did what was necessary and would be willing to refund $200. So instead of paying $2600, we would ONLY pay $2400? This is not taking care of the problem. He was unwilling to do anything else.
So now I'm reporting them to BBB, filing complaint through the state, warning others about this company and may end up going to court over this. I will NOT allow them to take advantage of us like they have! Please be warned if you need Septic Tank work done, DO NOT USE ROOTER PLUS!!
