Complaint Review: Rottins4ever Online Breeder Lisa Holley - Troy Alabama

 I have bought four cats from Lisa. The first was fine, the second died of something unknown respiratory and the next two are in process. One seems fine and the second one has FIP and is probably going to be put to sleep soon. I don't know what is going on in this breeding, but I think this is my sign to stop buying these types of cats. I just pray my other cat does not get sick and die too because that is thousands of dollars wasted and children heart broken. I think I should get a free cat by now but we all know that will not happen.

 I purchased 2 kittens from Lisa almost 5 years ago and my experience was 100% positive. Both kittens flew in from Alabama to Buffalo where I picked them up and drove back up to Canada. Both cats are currently happy and healthy, I've never had any health issues with the male. The females teeth aren't that great but it's because I didn't realize there was an issue until it was too late, this breed can be more succeptible to tooth problems because their muzzles are more prominent, and should have their teeth brushed, which was new to me as a cat owner, and is now part of our grooming routine. When I took the male to get fixed at my vet I forgot to bring the paperwork Lisa had given me about his shots but I was able to call her directly and ask her to speak to my veterinarian herself. She was able to tell the vet everything he needed to know right away. I have zero complaints about my cats. They are both exceptionally loving and smart animals. I've even contacted Lisa again about buying another cat in the future because I can't get enough of the wonderful breed! Lisa has a dynasty cats section on her website to show kittens from past litters in their new homes. Obviously she has had many happy clients send her photos, myself included. Losing a pet is horrible but it does seem a like this could be an unfortunate fluke.

Any DVM worth his salt will readily tell anyone that most cats carry the Corona virus.  

I am the owner of Rottins.  Im soo sorry for this women's loss of her kitten but this is not my fault.  I was never contacted about this kitten being sick until she had the kitten for 30 days.  Tobi left here with a health certificate dated within 3 days of him leaving and he was healthy or my vet wouldnt have allowed him to fly on a plane to CT. 

There were 2 other kittens in that litter that left the same day and they are alive and well in their new homes.  If this kitten was so sick and contagious why didnt any of the other kittens in that litter have it and get sick too? 

All my kittens leave my home with 2 sets of vaccines, a health certificate and a kitten contract.  My kitten contract states there is a 72 hour health guarantee (never have I given a 1 yr health guarantee) and it states to take your kitten to the vet within 72 hours...which she never did.  I even tried to get her vets information and she wouldnt provide any information about her vet.   

In my contract I also give a 4 month genetic guarantee that if a kitten dies an untimely death I will replace the kitten free of charge but I do require an autopsy report to prove cause of death.  None of this was ever provided to me by Sarah. 

Im sorry she lost her kitten but Im not to blame for this.  Im a very reputable breeder and I pride myself on raising happy healthy kittens.  All my kittens are my furbabies & are part of my family....they are very loved and cherished here.  Thank you for listening

We rarely see FIP in cats between 3 and 10 years of age. However, starting at 10-12 years of age, the immune systems of these older cats apparently decline, making them more susceptible.

How is the virus transmitted? Cat-to-cat contact and exposure to feces in litter boxes are the most common modes of infection. FCoV can be found in the saliva and feces of infected cats. Therefore, cat-to-cat contact and exposure to feces in litter boxes are the most common modes of infection. Contaminated food or water dishes, bedding, and personal clothing may also serve as sources of infection. FCoV may possibly be transmitted across the placenta. The significance of this is unknown. FCoV can live in the environment 3-7 weeks. After 3 weeks, however, the number of virus particles present is probably too small to cause infection. Many disinfectants will kill the virus, including household bleach diluted 1:32 in water. So really hard to say where a cat / kitten may have gotten this..

Why don't vets ask about this ??? I told my vet my intentions of breeding and he said he did a full check on her so this test may or may not have been done don't know, as for breeding cats that was very short lived as it's a lot of work dealing with lots of cats as well as people...lol

Christiane, by your description you did not appear to test for FIP which is what the OP states her kitten passed away from. Many people think testing for FELV and FIV are enough only to be devastated by a positive FIP test later down the line (which no one thought of until the animal. or one who has been exposed to it, is clinically ill and showing the signs which can be MANY years). FIP should be added to those initial tests as well. I would recommend it anyways but especially as you say you intend to breed. Please run the ELISA test and check the levels. Like many of the others your queen/tom does not have to show symptoms to infect others. PLEASE add this to your disease testing before you bring in a new cat with the others. Please try to get your friend to run the ELISA on her existing breeders just to be sure. Unfortunately if the test hasn't been run you don't KNOW your cats aren't infected, infecting, or WHEN their shedding. Many cats can effectively live out their entire lifetimes, never showing signs or becoming clinically ill and still pass it on to others when their levels are high enough to shed (and exposure does not necessarily mean infected). It is far better to be safe than sorry. There are many out there whose ONLY mistake is NOT to run that test. Everything else is strict standards by the book and sometimes even beyond. Appearances can be very deceiving. Because a kitten hasn't become clinically ill and diagnosed to her knowledge does NOT mean that a cat who was older did not and because of the AGE of the cat and no INITIAL testing it could not be linked back and therefore she was not informed. It could have started from a new cat that was not tested negative before entering the cattery/home. There could have been no other cases before now. It is most likely that the queen of that kitten has it even if she tests with lower levels now (they fluctuate). SOMEONE that kitten was around has it. We NEED to make that test as standard as the other two. We NEED to test our breeding cats and then make sure any new ones are tested 100% negative before they are exposed to our other cats. Not testing before something like this is a COMMON mistake. The thought that where our cats came from and their practices so it just couldn't be possible and therefore isn't thought much about is perpetuating the spread. PLEASE test. To the breeder, PLEASE test. Sarah, I am very sorry for your loss and know how much it hurts (not even an accurate description). I'm not sure what justice there could be as if it hasn't happened to her before she had no reason to be aware until this point. The truth is it probably wasn't intentional and she very well may not have known it existed in her cattery until now if it does (and the only way to know this is to test as you can NOT assume). Unfortunately, there is a possibility that if Binks tests positive and had not had a negative test prior to the kitten entering the home things may have happened the other way around for all the same reasons it might be in her home without her knowledge (it is more unlikely though). As someone who has experienced the devastation FIP can cause, my heart goes out to all of you. *just my opinions*

I purchased a Highland lynx female kitten last April 08, My kitten was raised at rottins and was 8 months old, I did not know Lisa Holley before that time When i bought my female which i purchased for breeding/pet I immediately took her to the veterinarian for all tests including the feline aids and leukemia test all were negative. My kitten i bought from Lisa had a litter in Oct and all babies are healthy happy and in new homes, I have also became very close friends with Lisa and know that she is very diligent in the cleanliness and health of all her cats/kittens she is very concerned and is very proactive in vaccinating early and several times before the kittens go to their new home. I am very sorry for your loss,The loss of any pet is very heartbreaking but I feel this must be a fluke thing with this kitten as I know Lisa has never had this happen before nor have the cat and recent kitten I bought from her cattery had any of these illnesses. Or I would not have purchased from her.
