After writing a 6 page report to their Human Resources Department, about not just how I was treated, but what I went through, and how poorly this restaurant is being ran behind the scenes; the only response I got from when I checked on the results were, "We are going under investigation..." and nothing more. So to make a long story short, Human Resources for any fortune 100 company is completely inferior in providing some kind of justice for your needs...Regardless of how unfair you were treated, discriminated against, bullied, abused, etc. These were all the things mentioned about the one which he calls himself, "Mr. Pikesville".
Ben El-Dehabi looks and acts like a Teddy Bear on the outside, but if you work for him be ready for an experience, in which you will think twice about working for a company that flashes shinny glasses and sizzling steaks, which is supposed to represent the name of the so proud company Ruth's Chris. I personally can cook my own steak, and I take pride in every minute I put into it, which should be the same for others, instead of wasting their money on a-la-carte pricing. I guess I'm not meant to understand these types of people...Does it make you feel good about yourselves???
It is sad, that this place isn't a real 5-Star restaurant considering it's reputation, yet it lacks the respect for employment, which is required in the state of law, along with a kitchen staff that is mostly of illegal immigration...I guess they believe the cliche rich scumbag view of a foreigner in which they see as "cheap labor", and not an actual hard working, dedicated individual. As I've worked too long to put up with this stale-mate of a time in which I can't get back...
I not only did my job as a busser, I ran food voluntarily when really busy along with picking up a shift one day a week to clean up the place. I was the guy that everyone asked for a favor, and even a couple of the "better" managers, used to ask me to run to "Seven Eleven" for a Red Bull or pack of cigarettes, which I didn't smoke, but since they asked me, I went and got it. This place is ran poorly behind the scenes, and yes I understand that to be successful in any form of business, you need to have high standards...But pushing people around, underpaying them, and making them bend over backwards: Cursing at employees when you're angry, choosing favorites, having open-suggestive conversations with the cocktail waitresses; is not a practice in which encourages me to take pride in where I work, or even be around. It's not only unprofessional but it makes me look like an idiot wanting to work for them. I actually try to encourage others to look elsewhere when seeking employment, even in this economy.
Sure the suited executive can come in, have an overpriced domestic bottle of brew or Martini, and a delicious steak; but how about a manager coming over, giving quick lines and charm and taking an extra tip which should be for the server and then the server comes to me to vent about why the customer smiled and still gave less than 15%. Yet the managers used to get on me all the time for doing my job busing tables along with talking to the customers when they were the ones talking to me. I'll never forget that little 30 second conversation on Valentine's Day with Steve Mcnair, just months before he passed away, people like the "crumber". The customers were the main reason why I stayed. I honestly didn't see myself working after the first 6 months. On top of being shady with the servers, giving foam cups to customers way after the store is closed so they can take their alcoholic beverages to-go is in their eyes, customer satisfaction... Oh wait, isn't that illegal?
There is just so much to say about this place, but honestly, I wanted to write a report similar to this awhile back but there is just no point because this is just one of those places that feed off the unaware and somewhat ignorant crowd. I really feel sorry for all the customers that receive the red carpet treatment that are being flaunted from this place...BUT... As a former employee of this overpriced and overrated "franchise", I realized after bending over backwards for the pathetic management that this place is nothing better than a glorified Dunkin' Donuts.
Thank you and be wise who you wish to work for...Take pride in yourself and don't let anyone make you feel that this is all you are good for. If it comes down to that, that's the moment you take and look for something else...Remember, No means Next.
