Buyer be Aware!!  Avoid Sand Dollar Tile - Sarasota

This has got to be the worst tile store ever!  We have remodeled numerous homes and have never run into a person such as this.  It is unfortunate that this tile company cannot manage their suppliers nor even measure and order the correct quantities of tile for what is a simple backsplash job.  Additionally, we have showed this tile to four professionals (installers and tile stores) and they all clearly agree that the stone and colors are different between the two orders Sand Dollar Tile placed.  It is believed that one is the Carrara and one is Calcutta; both of which are discontinued from Elysium the distributor.  After providing her with the contractors PDF drawings of the kitchen she still could not accurately calculate the correct quantity of tile.  She also promised to send a PDF drawing back showing the placement and size of the framed insert for the installers to follow, but of course she never did.

She also forced us to sign her acceptance doc or not take the tile. Unfortunately we had no choice as the installers were waiting.   She said that she and her husband had inspected all the boxes.  Obviously not or he is as bad as she!  Regardless she had another tile crew quickly load it into our car. Even though each box had been opened the tile was foamed and wrapped allowing only for counting not inspection of color or breakage.  Once we identified that there was not enough, many broken, and many wrong color: her next statement was “Sorry, this is a special order and not returnable.”

If she only owned up to her unprofessional mistakes then we could have ordered the new tile from her but we were forced to go elsewhere, tell our story and find a suitable replacement at the last minute.  This caused all our contractors to be on hold for 10 days while the new tile arrived.

It amazes me how a company like this can remain in business blaming their customers for her mistakes.  I suspect she will not last long with this behavior.

Over order fancy tile by 30% - $410 mistake

Over order chair rail tile by 30% - $45 mistake

Field Tile 17% Short  (even if all tile was perfect it was still short to complete job)

Field Tile 18% Wrong Color

Field Tile 16%  Broken

Field tile was a total loss - $1700

Do yourself a favor and find a real business and don’t sign her acceptance letter!!
