On April 23, 2012, I went for a simple oil change at the Scher Tire, Inc Goodyear store at
5062 Warner Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA 92649. The representative there recommended that I had the pan gasket, radiator with new hoses and transmission replaced. They also did an oil pan seal and replaced the pan gasket, radiator and transmission as recommended.
On April 26, 2012, exactly three (3) days later, my engine broke down on the freeway. The car stopped and would not start again. The car was towed back to the Goodyear store and the car technician admitted that the hose was improperly installed
which resulted in the lost of the coolant and the engine overheating. They had to replace the thermostat and gasket and replaced the coolant. Upon further inspection, they stated that the left Axle was torn and the right side axle seal was leaking. Upon their recommendation, I had both axle seals replaced and they assured me that everything was now fine.
On May 5, 2012, I observed leaks from under my vehicle and went back to the Goodyear. Goodyear then stated that the valve cover gaskets were leaking and recommended that the transmission mount be replaced since it was cracking. On May 10, 2012, due to their recommendations, I had the valve cover gaskets replaced, the power steering pump and the power steering pump replaced. They assured me that everything was fine.
On May 12, 2012, while driving to work, I noticed that the splash guard began falling apart on the road. I noticed that the splash guard was improperly secured and several bolts holding the splash guard were visibly missing. I went back to Goodyear that same day to have it replaced and secured tightly. Apparently, they had removed it when they had the other
parts installed and had it improperly installed. After installing it, they reassured me that my car was fine.
On May 25, 2012, while driving to work on the freeway, I heard a loud crack and immediately veered to the furthest lane on the freeway off the shoulder and parked my car. This time the engine would start but the car could not move. The car was towed back to the Goodyear. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the left front axle had completely collapsed and it was cracked. Apparently, it had also been installed incorrectly. Goodyear replaced it (again) and assured me that everything was now fine. I even had the store manager Greg Mone, check everything due to the previous experience of their faulty work and Mr. Mone reassured me that everything is working and there were no leaks.
Due to my car being towed twice and the incident with the splash guard, I decided to wait a few months to get a second opinion. On August 1, 2012, I went to Sears auto center in Westminster, who confirmed that the previous diagnosis of leaks was never fixed and in fact, all parts that had been newly replaced: the transmission, the gasket, the power steering pump, oil pan gasket and radiator cap were now all leaking. After putting in $2,249.34 for the work done on my car from Goodyear, my car is now in a worse state than when I initially came in for a simple oil change.
