This company sent us a check for a $4660. Asking us to send $1950 Western union transfer to a April Bell in NY. Then, send $2000 Money gram to the same person. It stated that we could have $400 for payment to do these assignments. Then asked to take the remaining $100 and spend it at a listed retail store. We keep the merchandise.
All they asked is that we fax reciepts and paperwork that they send. I called Joe Brown, Manager of the company and he confirmed all the details. I then perceded to the bank to verify the check and deposit it and they stated at the bank that the check was invalid. The routing number on the check was fraudulant. I then called Joe Brown back and explained it all to him and he Hung up on me after I disclosed the information to him.

I received a blank looking envelope with my name and address only, no return and the postmark was from Canada I believe. Inside I found the check with the assignments of testing western union and money gram money wiring services with the reward of easy money for about a days work. Also, I was given a third assignment to shop Walmart with a $100 and keep the goods. Even better!! Just send back the receipts and some paper work. Easy enough, until the check is found to be fraudulent. Joe Brown with his original name and suspect accent are also fraudulent. I called State Bank in Boston, the bank name on the check, and they informed me that they are aware of what is taking place. I called Katie Smith to inform that the gig is up and I would be reporting her and the scam to whoever will listen. She immediately hung up on me. I have tried to reach homestead financial to let them know because it seems that they are a legitimate mortgage company. Anyway, beware and pass this along to whomever, wherever.
