Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Five months ago I was robbed by criminals who took over six thousand dollars worth of possessions from me. They also stole my identity and cashed several checks under my name. I have provided adequate evidence to this insurance company (photos, lists, receipts, police reports) and they offered me a three hundred and eighty dollar settlement. You can't be serious.  So today I sent them this letter below. I consulted attorneys over the phone as well as in person and they told me to take it to small claims court, where I could end up making about seventy-five hundred dollars compared to the three-thousand dollars that my insurance claim covers. So this just may be a blessing in disguise. If I don't hear anything back in three days, the small claims court papers will be filed.

What can you learn from my mistakes?

Do not by any means ever take out Public Storage's insurance coverage.

Why??

Public Storage goes through a private entity named Sedgwick CMS. So when you unfortunately are robbed or a fire happens or a flood, etc..  Do not expect Public Storage to do anything for you, because they won't.  They will just refer you to their insurance policy paper, offer you no guidance and tell you to call the number and deal with them yourself.  You will then be given a claims adjuster who will never answer their direct line, nor will they return your voice-mails or emails for that matter. Their whole tactic is to ignore you until you give up on your claim.

My advice to you is to go through a private insurance company, as they're less likely to be against giving compensation for what you lost back in full and also in a timely manner. I can only imagine if I lost something of incredible importance, perhaps something that was needed for a health issue. It's been four months since I contacted them and I have only been contacted a total of three times after numerous attempts to get a hold of my agent.

The letter is as follows:

Mr. Insurance Agent (name protected), why? Because, I know it's the companies fault and not necessarily this exact individual's.

I have consulted with a few attorneys, who in turn have informed me that I can receive up to seventy-five hundred dollars in small claims court for my claim. This would be achieved by filing a "Breach of Contract" as well as a "Breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing" with a local courthouse. This amount of money would cover most of what I lost as well as the days of work I had to request off to deal with acquiring a police report from a high volume department. This department had larger issues to deal with and as a result I was left standing outside of my storage facility for hours each
day until the officers were able to get to my report. This can be made evident by the owners of the Public Storage unit who saw me each day I waited. This would also in turn cover the time I had to set aside from work to consult attorneys for information regarding this claim.

I have supplied you with more than enough information to support my claim and this has been dragged out over the last couple of months for no reason. Not to mention your provided phone number rarely connects me to you, but more so, your answering machine. The three hundred and eighty dollar settlement I was offered doesn't even begin to account for the lost items shown in the photos that were provided as well as the police report and a detailed list which I also compiled while I was waiting for the police to arrive.  I am asking that you re-consider my settlement to the amount in full as to avoid the hassle of dealing with a small claims court process.

I acknowledge your concern on this matter and would appreciate a prompt response within the next few days.

Respectfully,

Josh
