   I visited the Shell Gas Station at 207 E. Main Rd. in Middletown, RI on Sat. May 29. I pulled up to pump 3, selected 'pay at pump' with credit/debit, and swiped my debit card. The pump appeared to not be working correctly, and displayed a message saying 'discontinue host', or something along those lines. I waited a moment or two, and then the pumped displayed 'transaction canceled'. The station was very busy, and rushing to work I decided to leave and get gas later. However, on June 1st a charge from this gas station appeared on my debit account, for $51.24. I took my statement to the gas station and spoke with a Manager. I explained the situation, and asked him to review the security tapes to see that I indeed did not pump gas, and refund me the $51.24. He claimed that this particular pump did not have a security camera. How convenient. I explained to him that my car would not even take $51 worth of gas, and showed him on my statement that later that same day I did get gas at another station. I then asked if he could review the tapes anyway, he would see me at least coming and leaving from his station within just a few minutes, and not having long enough to pump $51 worth of gas. Apparently this Manager is lacking in the customer service department, he said that even if he could see that I indeed was charged for another person's gas that he could not refund me because he would not be able to 'track them down'...he continued on to say that when somone pays at the pump they're 'on their own' and that his store is not responsible for any mishaps.



   It is really a shame because this Shell station is half way between my work and home, and nearby a coffee shop I frequent. They get a lot of business from me - or did. I am severely dissatisfied with this Shell station...and I'm sure Shell would not want a Manager like this representing their company.



   I've filed a dispute through my bank, but it is a shame that this Manager is not concerned with rectifying the situation. And it makes me wonder about a pump that stores card numbers even after displaying 'transaction canceled'...I will never patronize this Shell station again. And will most likely avoid Shell stations altogether.
