Shenoa Shell Game
May, 2005: After much frustration, we purchased a diamond ring from a company called Shenoa, a popular on-line vendor that does a lot of business on E-Bay. The diamond was advertized as having G color and VVS-2 clarity. We had the stone placed in a custom setting.
When the ring arrivedit came with documention attesting to its qualities. At this point, we should have had it apprasied by an independent expert. June 2006: A friend suggested we have the ring added to our insurance as a seperate rider. To do so, we needed an independent apprasial.
We used the services of a GIA certified appraiser. We then learned that both the color and clarity was well below what the vendor cited (it was color K not G, VS-2 not V VS-2). We asked for an exchange and they refused. They said we had waited too long and because we had the stone re-set, they would not set things right.
We believe our only fault was in actually having trust in Shenoa in the first place. They were hoping we were too naive to know and they were right.

Been in the business for 23+ years. Most of those off brand appraisals aren't worth the paper they're written on. Even some of those EGL or GIA appraisal are "iffy". GIA had a big scandal where they were overappraising stones for certain "better" customers. As for your new appraisal. Know 7 local GIA graduate gemologists. FIVE of them are as crooked as the day is long. When asked about one who worked for me. I said just remember. This is the guy who comes to work with one blue and one black sock AND can't tell the difference. 46th street and 47th street are famous snake pits. Just another satisfied internet customer. What's the old saying? **** from shenoa or is that shinola?
