I Bought 2 white female pug puppies from Shirley Colbert in November 2012. The first question I asked her was if she shipped internationally, she said she hadn't before and assured me she was happy to ship the pugs to England.
I have previously bought a pug from the USA and was familiar with the procedures, I sent Shirley a list of vaccinations, treatment and paperwork required by DEFRA in order to ship to the UK. Shirley agreed that all was OK with this.
3 weeks later she contacted me to say two of her puppies had died, one being a girl I had placed a deposit on. She kept ALL of the money as full payment for the remaining pup.
As the months past Shirley became cold and frustrated. She told me on numerous occasions that she wished she could wash her hands of the whole thing and sell locally. She told me that she worked ALL day and didn't get in from work until 9 p.m. I was shocked at this as it IS NOT WHAT STATES ON HER WEBSITE - it clearly says the dogs are looked after in the house.
Next she told me she had sent over 20 e-mails to PBS (pet broker) and had no reply. I e-mailed and got a response immediately. PBS said they had NO RECORD OF ANY CORRESPONDENCE FROM SHIRLEY COLBERT.
I then found out via Facebook that another Lady was having problems with Shirley. She had sold her a pup and NEVER produced any papers.. 3 months on and she is still waiting for these.
Worried I was never going to see my girl I arranged for her to be collected by another breeder and she was going to ship for me. Shirley became angry and told me she would only let her go if I paid another $750. I asked what it was for and she sent me receipts for nail clipping, oral care, screening and 4 vet appointments. NONE OF THESE ARE REQUIRED TO SHIP A PUP OR INDEED ANYTHING I AGREED TO. Shirley estimated $75 for a rabies vaccination and the bill was $250. When I refused to pay she e-mailed me saying "I am so done with you, I will not give you this puppy no matter how much you beg, I already have 2 buyers desperate for her locally" I replied saying I had waited 5 months for this puppy and a loving home awaits her, I had paid $1800 in November. She told me our business was done and she would NOT refund my money. I am now pursuing this through the courts. I have ALL OUR E-MAILS WHICH PROVES I AM TELLING THE TRUTH.
I have noticed on her new website www.snowwhitepugs.com that she is now asking for $5 a day expenses for any pup that stays longer than 8 weeks. This was never mentioned in our agreement. Plus if proceedures were followed correctly Shirley could have shipped my girl at 15 weeks - she still had her at 20 weeks and hadn't even had the health certificate signed. Please don't waste your money with this lady. Look on Facebook for AKC white pug breeders and find an honest, ethical breeder on there.
