A mattress was bought for my mom (A senior citizen) about one tear ago from Sleepy's.

In under a year - The mattress has formed a large indent in the middle. My mom is a petite woman and weighs 100 pounds. This should not be happening. It is extremely painful for her to sleep on this mattress. She called Sleepy's and they informed her that this was "normal".  She awakes each morning with terrible back pain because of sleeping in the indent in the mattress.

The mattress is defective if it did not last even for one year.

Sleepy's sent over their "experts" to measure the indent and investigate, take photos etc. A few weeks after that they informed her that the indent falls within their "normal" range and they will do nothing about it.

The "experts" that came over to investigate work for Sleepy's - Of course they are going to report that this is normal...So that Sleepy's does not have to do anything about their defective merchandise.

Sleepy's informed my mom that this is "normal"....And that the mattress should conform to the body - However - It is not a tempur pedic mattress (The sponge kind)....This is a mattress that is supposed to last for 15 years. My mom is tiny and weighs very little.

My mom cannot afford to purchase one mattress per year - As I'm sure no one else can -  or should have to.

Sleepy's will not replace the mattress...In the meantime my mom has back pain every day from sleeping in a valley on a mattress that is under one year old.

According to Sleepy's - The matter is closed.

Sleepy's should be ashamed to sell a defective mattress to a senior citizen and then not correct their mistake. This mattress was supposed to last for 15 years.

Hi David K,

I'm sorry I didn't keep the information or the name of the woman who finally helped me.

What I can suggest is to do exactly what I did - And maybe you'll get a call from a supervisor who can actually help. I got the run around for a while too.

I opened a complaint with the better business BBB online...They will contact Sleepys about your complaint.

I also contacted news programs like "7 on your side" and "shame on you".

I also continued to write on this site as well - And received many calls from Sleepys customer service - Who could NOT help me....Finally - I did get a call from a female supervisor who DID help...And we made a deal about the delivery fee too - Since I didn't feel that my mom should pay for that since the mattress was defective.

Keep at it...Keep e-mailing, writing on this site, calling and complaining to whomever will listen - I'm sure eventually someone will contact you who wants it to all go away.

Good luck with it - I'm sorry I didn't keep the person's name.

Let me know how it goes....

I'm happy (And surprised) to say that Sleepy's has resolved the problem for my mom.

Three customer service people later - It is resolved...My mom has a new mattress (An upgrade)...She is very happy with it.

To anyone who is having a problem with this company ... Don't give up - Keep going until you find someone who will help you to resolve your problem.

Thank you.

This automated (canned) response is typical of scams.

If they were going to help you then their experts sent to investigate your problem would have helped.  This auto response (here to assist) is for the search engines.

Sleepy's is a scam outfit.  They may have been a good company in the past but, not anymore.  Glad I did not buy from them.

E-mail to customer service - Undeliverable

#6Author of original report

Thu, December 10, 2009

Hi Melissa, Thank you for writing. I replied to you via e-mail twice and the e-mail came back as undeliverable. My mom's order number is - 04248F2YMFF Mattress purchase date - 9/08... A charitable organization for seniors (JASA) purchased the defective mattress for my mom (Who is a senior citizen)... I have already received a phone call from someone in customer service who has informed me that there is nothing that can be done except another measurement 60 days from the original date. I don't think there should be any indent in a mattress that is supposed to last for many years. My mom is petite and weighs very little. She wakes up with back pain every day from sleeping in a valley in the mattress. The valley began to form in the mattress in under a year. I feel that the mattress should be replaced with a quality, firm mattress...That will not cave in any time soon. When my mom was in the Sleepy's store in Oceanside....The salesman (Nick) confided in her to NOT purchase the mattresses leaning against the wall......As they were not up to par as far as quality. Since JASA paid for the mattress and my mom did not get to pick it out herself - It appears that she received one of the inferior quality mattresses. We are going to contact news "7 on your side" as well as "Shame on you" channel 5 fox news. The BBB has been notified today. We will continue to contact any agency or person that will help us to replace the defective mattress....Since Sleepy's feels that the indent is not large enough. (There should not be any indent)..... The customer rep who called me offered to "make a deal" (A better price) on a new mattress.....I don't think your customers should have to purchase a new mattress once a year. My mom did not have the money for the first mattress - It was purchased by JASA. (An organization that helps seniors)....... Sleepy's should be ashamed... If you can offer any *real* assistance I would appreciate it - Please contact me or my mom. Measuring the valley again in 2 months is not helpful. Thank you. P.S. After researching the internet I see that we are not alone in having received a defective mattress from Sleepy's.
