in feb.2005, SMC took my payment. i was told a refund would be given 2-3 days if i didnt want it, and i returned it a couple weeks later (post office said they'd get it 2-3 days), they finally confired recieving it a couple more weeks later,(the same day i stopped them from getting anymore payments from my checking)...they said they would mail my refund soon after that, and i would recieve itin about a week. ..i waited awhile and contacted them again and they said it was returned to them, i gave them my mailing adress again, a couple weeks later i emailed them again and they will not respond to me....i told them i would report them if i didnt get my refund of $25.00, so i am......

yes i was an employee of smc in the website dept. and there was some nights i could not sleep be cause of the way they cheat people. the sales dept. in arizona records your conversation but if you were misled they will "lose" that tape. for example they might not tell you that you need a merchant account to accept credit cards, that will cost you around $400.00. When i worked there they sold 500 websites a month but they also had 300 cancellations a month, so the director of operations started a policy to use stalling tactics so they they could deduct one more months hosting fee from your bank account to help with their loss. at the time there was no one who was relying only on their website that made enough money to pay for the site not to mention the high hosting fee, membership, and that merchant account. if you call tech support and ask how to add your site to search engines they will charge you a large fee to do it for you whitch will take only a minute to do but you are paying for support and the information should be told to you. it is just another way to make you pay. people will call and say that they are not making any money so smc will say that they have a package to optimise your website for search engines (for a large fee) but shouldn't your site already be optimised? then if you submit your site to b-central a microsoft search engine, the site will be declined and they will send you a list of 100 things that need to be done but smc will not do that because it will cost them too much money. the websites are third rate at best but don't expect to make any money. they say that you can get all your money back if you cancel within 30 days. they don't tell you it starts after you buy the site and not after they turn it over to you. so it takes them 30 days to build the site and to turn it over to you, in reality it can take less than a day to build the site because they build it from a template so your site looks like everyone who has an smc site. that was 5 years ago but i don't think they have changed.
