Sounds like a good idea: Sign up for an account on Sologig.com and they'll put you in touch with contract position near where you live based on your skills.

Bad news: It's all a bunch of BS.

I get an e-mail from Sologig about new opportunities in my area, so I go to the website and search available gigs near my zip-code. Sure enough, there are about 40 possibilities, one that looks especially good. In fact, it's a great fit with my background and experience. Best of all, it's very close to where I live. So I click on it.

Boom, up comes the application. I fill it out. Paste in my resume. (It looks great, even the formatting was preserved.) Add in my unique skills. At the bottom of the page are two boxes. Please enter your password. Twice.

So I do just that and click on "Submit."

Five seconds later the page is back with a big note in red: "You are already a member of our service. Please log in to continue."

So I click on "log in," enter my user name and password and click enter.

Boom, I'm back at the job search page. Good.

There's the gig I want, so I click on it, again.

Then I click on "apply."

Then I get the application page, which I fill out again, re-pasting my resume and re-entering my qualifications and lo and behold, at the bottom of the page are the same two boxes asking me for my password. (Didn't I just log in?) I enter my password (again) in both boxes and click submit.

Five second later, the application page is back with the same stupid note in red.

There's more.

I go to the FAQ page at sologig. (To get there I had to do a search on Google.) Right there it says "How to apply for a job." And the result doesn't look anything like what I saw on their site.

I go back to the FAQ page. There is a question about posting your resume. The answer is to go to the "profile" tab after you log in.

Problem is, if you log in, you never see any tabs, just the job search page.

Conclusions:

1. Sologig.com is a colossal waste of time.

2. Sologig does not have any jobs that can be applied for. I know, I've tried.

3. Sologig must be selling information you provide (i.e. e-mail and personal information gleaned from resumes).

Advice for job seekers:

AVOID SOLOGIG.COM. IT IS A RIPOFF AND POSSIBLY A SCAM.

It actually saves time. If you take note of the e-mails that sologig sends you, you would realize that it exposes you to all sorts of companies that you may not have known existed in the first place. It takes time, patience, and effort to go through a company's website and to gain an idea and perspective of what that company is all about.

In conclusion, if you view this site as a time waster, then you may be using the site for limited ways rather than the multiple ways it can be utilized.
