I tried to log in to my Wheel of Fortune account today, only to find out that they added additional security features - by storing my Social Security number. I never gave Sony permission to collect and save my Social Security number, nor did I give it to them, but according to their site, they have it. They have also locked out my ability to log in via the Sony Rewards pages in the same manner. It appears they are trying to collect information that can be used to steal my identity. My only recourse is to email customer service via a form or to call them. I have no intention of giving Sony my SSN via email or phone. I also have no intention of setting any other password or security question by phone or email.

The easiest way to circumvent security is to commuincate passwords by phone and email.

The simplest solution is often the correct one - if Sony customer service has access to sensitive information like that, a breach will most likely come from there. You cannot trust random low-wage call center workers to not copy private information - this is whay we have proper security procedures.

I was also not notified in advance of this, nor was I ever given the opportunity to log in before this change was made and set a security password.

The only reason I can fathom adding security of this type to things like Wheel of Fortune  and Sony Rewards accounts would be to give Sony, its employees, and its independent contractors access to information they should not have, and to justify the accumulation and use of this information.

Someone needs to stop these insane attacks of anti-security.
