My father passed a couple of years ago leaving behind a huge bill from Southern California Edison to be resolved. Since he was renting the property we had to notify the landlord and other companies to turn off utilities and clean the home. I handled most of the business that needed to be done which meant I had to call and make sure the utilities would be shut off before the date the landlord requested. I called SCE to inform them of the situation and I thought that was the end of it. 3 months later I move into my own apartment and get my electricity turned on after 2 months of paying a bill of 38-55 dollars I all of a sudden receive a bill for $436. I call to ask where the amount came from and they said I owed from a previous address. I didn't even know the address until the representative said my father name as the account holder. I told him that I wasn't responsible for that bill I didn't even live at the address at the time. I asked him why my name even showed up for the bill and he clearly said that it was because they received a call over 3 months ago for a service termination. Despite I had already paid my own bill a week later my electricity was shut off.

So I called the Head of SCE she asked me to make copies of anything that can indicate that I didn't live at the address, I sent her all the documents I had indicating that I not only lived away from that area but I lived in a different part of the city. I sent Check stubs, IRS forms, County paperwork and my drivers license. She still determined by whatever investigation they conducted that I lived at the home. The only possible way I can be connected to that home was due to a student loan I took out 3 years prior in which they ran my fathers credit for my loan assistance because I was still considered a dependent student. I had to move out of the apartment because even though, I was paying my electricity usage for my own apartment, they kept shutting off my lights because I couldn't pay that bill along with rent. So I jumped my lease which is another damage on my credit , but now SCE has stamped a $326 dollar balance which along with my student loans, is preventing me from getting another apartment. I think that's a crooked action on their part, I always paid my bill on time, I shouldn't have to pay or even get a blotch on my credit for someone else who owed them money.
