Here is our frustrating history with SBC/Cingular for a year now.

Regarding Cingular Mobile First:

1) Last year we signed a 2 yr. contract for Cingular service, MAINLY because of the combined 20% discount billing with SBC and the promise that the coverage would soon be in our home area. At that time via phone calls to SBC and Cingular I made sure by going to the Cincular store instead of ordering online I would still qualify for combined billing and was told yes.

2) I was concerned about our phone getting dated in 2 years, but was told that by signing a 2 yr. contract and getting new phone specials, we would qualify again in a year for a new phone special.

3) I was also told our home in Cedar Hill was getting a new tower and the service will extend to our home.

UPDATE: a year later!

1) Went in for new phone specials, was told "sorry, we don't do that after 12 mos. anymore. Maybe after 18 or 24 mos." FALSE ADVERTISING!

2) I've called several times this past year for combined billing discount, NEVER HAPPENED! When I call I'm told it will take at least 2 billing cycles. NEVER HAPPENS! Now when I called this week (11/22/2004) naturally I asked for it to be retroactive to the other times I called I was told in no uncertain terms by a representative (QUITE RUDELY!) No, we don't do retroactive. He refused to give me his last name or extension and left me on hold when I asked for a supervisor. Again I've been told it can take up to 2 billing cycles. Is this a joke? FALSE ADVERTISING!

3) Lastly, the service being available in Cedar Hill? NO!!!! Why would I want a service that I can't even use at home?

Regarding SBC Telephone Service:

1) Then we signed up for DSL with SBC last November as well. It's okay when it's up and running.

2) Then we signed up for the "total package" but after our first bill was TWICE the amount it would never exceed we cancelled that! Of course we had to pay the huge bill first! FALSE ADVERTISING!

So we basically put all our eggs in one basket with SBC. Our phone service was out for 2 days earlier this same month (11/04). Then was out again beginning the Sunday before Thanksgiving around noon. EVERY DAY SBC told us to wait at home for the repairman. EVERY DAY they said someone had to be home.....for FOUR DAYS!!!!!! Why would any company not be able to give a customer even an answer that it is 2 days out or a 5 hour window or at least a 1 day window!!?? FOUR DAYS PRISONER IN OUR HOME! Everyday we called and were told Sunday, could be today before five. Called again, could be Monday morning. Called again, for sure Tuesday before 5:00p.m. Called again, will be Wednesday by 1:00. I thank God that it finally happened and I can leave my home.

So, while I'm paying everyday for phone service, mobile service and DSL for four days with SBC/Cingular I have no communication unless I stand on a chair in my dining room to use the Cingular cell because the tower was never built or someone lied, I have no phone service, I have no DSL, I have no internet. During my busiest time of year with the holidays, SBC cost me literally $1,000's in sales, lost sales, time and reputation with customers.

I think the false advertising, being told to stay home for 4 days, no combined billing..etc..... should be illegal. I think it's interesting that SBC's repair line is continually busy. The only way I managed to talk to anyone was by calling another department and being transferred.

This is so unfair for SBC to be such a huge company and mislead people so badly. You should be ashamed of yourselves. If there are recordings of the repair department someone should listen. Many of these people are extremely

condenscending and rude. One woman told me "we don't guarantee 24 hour phone service". And I thought, but they bill for it? I was crying when I was calling, begging for someone to come or give me a good, reliable time. There is no way an executive of SBC or Cingular would have tolerated this treatment, yet they seem to expect customers to.

Now I'm a year into the 2 yr. contract with Cingular and will be penalized with a fee and credit rating if I quit paying.
