Specialized Veterinary Services let a dog die of bloat. They let him suffer while they stonewalled his owner who couldn't immediately come up with all the money upfront for his lifesaving surgery. His owner offered them land a car a boat as collateral but they refused to budge as her dog lay dying. Be forewarned.

Not factual accounts of SVS

This post as well as other posts on various media sites about SVS seem to be the dog owner and her friends trying to ruin the reputation of this company. The person who posted the rip off report is reporting a 2nd hand story and was not there. According to the dog owner's facebook page, the dog owner was by herself at SVS.

The dog owner in question posted to her own Facebook page that her home was in short sale and she could not pay her bills. The dog owner stated that SVS had options for credit plans in place but her credit was so bad she did not qualify.

How could anyone ask a company to take a boat in as a trade or "shake" on the bill when they have not paid other bills back and already in a financial mess?

As stated by dog owner on her facebook page, SVS even called her to check on her after and asked her what they could do. This is not something that a company that is "just after money" does. On SVS's website you can read that the Doctor has received awards for donating his services and performing surgeries on local shelter animals. Again, a company that is "just after money" would not donate their services to shelter animals.

Also, as stated by dog owner, she only went to SVS as it was her only option. If you research online you can see that there are 2-3 other 24 emergency animal clinics in the area. She is stating false information to make her seem to be the victim in this situation.

It is unfortunate that the dog owner can't pay her bills, but it is unfair that SVS is being attacked so maliciously.

Would not take payment plan

I forgot to add in the original review that SVS refused to discuss a payment plan. Alot of people can't immediately cough up $5500 in the middle of the night in an emergency situation. SVS's regard for the poor dog was non-existent.

As an owner of about 7 acres of land; I own 5 dogs, 8 cats, and also several horses, ponies, donkies, as well as mules.  So, I am quite familiar with how vets offices and vet hospitals work.  Granted, I truly do feel sorry for the owner whose dog died.  But unfortunately, we live in a system in which services redered require a monetary payment.  Our country no longer live in the barter system unlike when the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock.  Nowadays, if you need or want something, one needs to pay money for it.  For what it's worth, the owner of the dog lacked.  Please don't get me wrong.  I DO FEEL SORRY FOR THE OWNER.  But having land, a car, or even a boat as you stated is not payment for services that were needed to be done.

The person, Leslie Ackers, that left a bad comment about SVS has never been to that hospital, had a pet involved in a case at that clinic and does not even know the dog she is referencing! She doesn't even live in the same state where that clinic is located. I feel that her record of events involving this family and SVS are deemed irrelevant considering she had no involvement! SVS would never let an animal die. The dog mentioned was euthanized because his owner elected that option. SVS provided treatment for the dogs shock and performed X-rays as the owner decided what treatment was best for his bloat. Since SVS is not a pawn shop, sadly "collateral" isn't accounted for as U.S. dollars which is what is required for an operating business with more than 70 employees to pay wages. If they paid for every surgery or emergency situation needed for owners without real money, they would be out of business! They wouldn't be able to do the amazing things they do everyday! This is real life, it's not the game of monopoly. You can sell "Park Place" for a real tangible surgical procedure. It doesn't work that way. SVS is one of the largest supporters of all the rescues and humane societies in the community where they are located. They give back all the time and help pets in Southwest Florida every single day! They have a huge following of pet owners that actually have been to their clinic and experienced first hand the wonderful talent their staff offers! I feel sorry for this outstanding hospital which is being subjected to rediculous and bogus reviews by these mysterious people! These people who have no connection whatsoever to that case, that hospital, or the people involved. I want everyone out there to try a little test: next time you go to any business in America purchasing something, instead of paying with real money, ask them if they will let you buy your goods with collateral! Maybe buy some groceries using your....coach purse? That might work! Or let's see, next time you're out to eat, order your food, then when you need to pay let them kindly know you don't have money BUT instead you have a car you can use as collateral until after you eat and can get real money! Good luck with that! SVS is a great hospital. They offer the most advanced and progressive medicine around! I know firsthand because my pets actually have been in their care!
