Sprint Nextel Stay Away! Terrible Phone and Customer Service, Internet
On 4/21, I called Sprint because my phone had a hinge and outer display broken to see if they would make me a deal on a new phone. I told them that I would not pay $500 for a new phone when I could get a new iphone from Verizon for $200. They said that the best that they could do since I only have one year with them and was not eligible for a full upgrade was take $75 off. I asked if they could credit me one month service to keep me, they said no.
They reminded me that if I cancelled I would owe $110 in early termination fees. I replied that I understood and agreed that I would owe the early termination fee if I cancelled. By my figuring, I would still be up $115 if I switched. I had the impression that they are not trying very hard to keep customers. Besides all of this, their network is unreliable. I could be sitting at home and go from 4 to zero bars for a few seconds for no apparent reason.
I called Verizon and ordered my iphone which works great. The network and the quality of calls that I have had on Verizon is outstanding. So that I would not miss out on having a phone while it was in the mail, I did not port my number. Once I received my iphone and had it set up, I called Sprint on the 24th to cancel my service. They asked if there was anything that they could do to keep me and I said that it was too late for that. They agreed to cancel my service but said that it would take until the first to process.
Today, I turned on my phone to verify that it was disconnected. It was not. I called customer service and they said that my billing cycle ends on the 22nd and because I called on the 24th, they would not be able to end my service until the 22nd of May and they want me to pay for this service that I am not using in addition to the termination fee. They say that they lack the technology to shut off my phone service before then. I asked them if they think that anyone would believe that in this day and age they could not, if they chose to, terminate the service. They said that this was just how it was. I spoke to a supervisor, same story. I told them that they need to figure out how to turn off my service and not bill me for the time from the 24th when I called to cancel. They said that they cannot do this.
I will pay my early termination fee. I AM NOT paying them for this month of service that I AM NOT USING. I am so angry. I said that I would post what happened on FB and anywhere else that I could think of if they did not remedy this situation. The supervisor told me to go ahead. Here it is. So folks, don't be fooled by the lower prices. You will get shoddy phone and customer service.
