While I understand your frustrations, theres a few things you might not have known: 1. Almost every insurance company treats pregnancy as a medical condition. If you policy did not SPECIFICALLY state it would cover the pregnancy, then it wont cover it. 2. Just for sake of argument, lets say the policy DID have coverage for pregnancy. If you already knew that you and your wife were expecting BEFORE you were shopping for insurance, the pregnancy would have been treated as a "pre-existing condition" and would have been excluded. 3. NEVER and I mean NEVER EVER just take someone's word for it when it comes to ANY type of health insurance (or anything for that matter). If they say "Yes it does", ask to see it in writing. As we all know: If its not on paper, it never happened. 4 As far as canceling your policy whenever you chose, you are right. You ALWAYS have that ability. If you could not get someone to do it on the Human Resources side of things, you can always contact the company directly. If that is to no avail, you can always consult and independent agent. If you are willing to look into coverage to replace the coverage that you are not happy with, I am sure they would be more than happy to help you look into getting the undesired policy terminated. Noone can MAKE you carry any type of policy if you dont want it, especially one that is that exuberantly priced. As I stated in the title, this is a very sad but very normal situation. I suggest contacting your states department of insurance or seeking legal advise. It may be a long drawn-out process but if you want justice that may be your best bet. I wish you luck.
