DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use stamps.com (a.k.a. scams.com). It's definitely a scam.com setup by the Postal Service itself otherwise stamps.com couldn't possibly still be in business with the amount of complaints out there. The postal service lists them as an "authorized provider" so you know something's gotta be going on there. I just wish I had searched for reviews BEFORE signing up for the service the first time around...I'll never do that again!
The first indication should have been the fact that they let you easily open an account online but to close it is another story. Check the website for anywhere it says "You can easily close your account online at anytime with no obligation by clicking here" betcha can't find it. That's because it doesn't exist. You have to call them and when you do you'll just be talked around in circles by a representative who makes it nearly impossible to close your account unless you b***h them out and threaten them with legal repercussions. I must have closed my account 30 times with them and each time the representative pretended like they knew nothing about the account being closed until I pointed out to them that I closed my account last week with Rachel and the week before with Chris and the week before with Tom. It even got to the point where I was just calling them to cancel my account every week for my own entertainment and to inconvenience them as much as they inconvenienced me.
Haven't heard from them in years but wouldn't be surprised if I called them to cancel my account today that the rep would pretend to know nothing about my account being closed and mysteriously start billing me again. They know they have a service that provides very little value at all to the consumer so they do anything they can to beat the money out of you and your bank account. They're just the middleman collecting a $16/month fee from you for what you could do yourself by driving your lazy a*s to the post office and picking up some stamps! Is this a real-life man-in-the-middle attack or what?!
The real kicker was that those "FREE" stamps they let you print out from your computer weren't forever stamps so when my loan servicer would receive mail with postage due (because the cost of postage went up again after I had printed my stamps out) they were charging my account $2.00 everytime and I used every stamp before I realized it was happening. I more than paid for that "FREE" postage they gave me in the trial.
What's worse is they keep sending me computer CD's in the mail that probably include spyware pleading that I sign up again so they can continue to take advantage of me like a drunk girl at a college frat party or something. Oh yes! Thanks, scams.com, for sending me a little reminder to come back here and write this little memoir of your terribly crappy service. I think I'll write a new one everytime you send me another one of your mailings. Aw, shucks! I even had to go out of my way to create a new account and all just to write this but it was so worth it!
They should rebrand and change the name so that it represents what the service really is: NothingButProblems.com
