Starr Law Group in Pompano Beach, Florida charged me up front fees to help me with a laon modifcation with my banker. They took my money, told me not to make anymore payments to my lender because I had to be behind on my mortgage to get a modification, so I stopped making payments, and big mistake. I sent Starr Law Group everything they asked for such as check stubbs and everything else they needed. They claimed several times they never received the needed papers, the problem was, I faxed the papers and had proof Starr Law Group received the papers. I was told by Starr Law Group they would stay in contact with me about every two weeks and let me know how things were going. I never received calls back from Starr Law Group.

I called them and was told they were working on my case.  I called my lender, and I was told tha they had not heard anything from Starr Law Group in over four (4) months. This law firm is a rip-off and will take you for your money and not do anything to help you.  The Better Business Bureau in Florida has already received 9 complaints from clients of Starr Law Group that have files complaints.   Please before you use Starr Law Group, research the firm before using them. Don't get ripped off the way I did. I have filed a law suite against Starr Law Group for the money I had paid them times 3 plus damages that they have caused me with my lender, three credit bureaus, and mental state. The Florida Attorney General has been notified, as well as the Florida Bar. I do not want to see Starr Law Group Rip anyone else off.

Your story is nearly identical to my client's experience.  I strongly suggest contacting the Florida Bar Association and filing a complaint with them.  1. no matter if you signed a contract for the modification, it is illegal to charge up front for a modification everywhere in the US.  2.  Telling you to stop paying your mortgage payments can lead to government legal action against the law firm.  And the government has won cases recently.  The Florida Bar Association would also investigate that complaint.

You can also go online and file a complaint with the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau.  They have a form online making it simpler to file quickly.

You can get free help to get a loan modification and it does NOT take 4 months.  It is quicker than that.  Check in your area for free housing counselors.  They typically get grants and government money to do their work.
