To respond the the initial commenter about letting my own insurance deal with this, my insurance would only subrogate State Farm if I had collision insurance on the vehicle. Since it was an old vehicle, I only carried minimum state coverage. Thus, my insurance carrier will not fight for me either.
Also, it's important to note that this accident occurred in Ohio, but it was the Dallas State Farm people who responded to my complaints.

If your car was totaled, why can't you claim it through YOUR insurance, and then let them go after State Farm for reimbursement. I think this is how it works, but not sure.
