If you had followed the whole sorry health insurance issue you would have seen that every time the Democrats tried to implement any of the things you are talking about, the Republicans faught it tooth and nail. I actually don't trust any of our legislators but the insurance industry definitely has the Republicans on a short leash.
Besides, none of the new reforms were in place at all when the events this person is talking about took place.
One thing is for sure though, our health care system is a mess and can't measure up to any of the rest of the industrial world. It's embarassing.

Not surprising in a country where a Wellpoint executive wrote the health care 'reform' bill and the senator who killed the public option received about $3 million from the insurance 'industry.' Recently it was discovered that wellpoint routinely canceled the policies of women with breast cancer and insurance executives have actually had the nerve to defend these practices. Out government's solution--force citizens to purchase policies from these very same companies with no alternative such as the public option. Obama turned out to be just a corrupt as any republican when it comes to big business.
