Stephen Ploue is a terrible builder.  We invested most of our savings to purchased a Ploue spec home in 2010.  We have had a myriad of problems arising from the builders sub-standard construction.  In particular, we have foundation issues which Ploue refuses to acknowledge despite written documentation from engineers and a shoring company.  Our home has many cracks in the drywall.  Doors and windows will not open and close properly.  We have cracks in the slab and in exterior bricks.  Ploue has attempted only cosmetic repairs and ulimately walked away refusing to address the foundation issues.

We are left with a home we cannot sell and cannot afford to repair.  The Louisiana New Home Warranty Act offers ome protection for consumers from issues like this.  It is unfortunate that we must resort to litigation in order to force Stephen Ploue to fulfill his obligations under his warranty.

Beware of this builder.

#3REBUTTAL Owner of company

Tue, April 09, 2013

I am truly disappointed as to the nature of this complaint. It is always disheartening when a former home owner expresses dissatisfaction. Coincidentally, Stephen Ploue Construction has been in business for almost 12 years and I have only had 2 lawsuits. Both of which involved home owners that suffered financial hardships such as foreclosure and/or losing one's job. As a builder, I do everything in my power to rectify the situation but in this particular example- what is not being disclosed is that I investigated this claim, hired an engineer out of pocket as well as the owner from a local shoring company (Clesi- one of the most reputable in the state) to review the foundation and both of which composed an extensive report stating that there was not anything wrong with their foundation. All cosmetic repairs and final punch-outs (although minor) were addressed and repaired at my own expense.  Unfortunately, with regards to situations such as this- it certainly attacks my integrity and reputation. Luckily, my company has always centered around my customers and the quality of my homes. I am truly sorry that this particular home owner(s) suffered financial hardship but I can only build the home- I can not pay your mortgage though when one loses their job nor buy the home back when one can not afford it. Lastly, this disgruntled home owner tried to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau and after further investigation, the BBB retracted their claim after uncovering the numerous attempts made on my part. I have both the letter from the BBB as well as the engineer's report upon request.
