Stoneleigh Recovery Harassing, RUDE, Annoying Lombard Illinois
I got a call from a phone number with a 630 area code and since I am enrolled in a Debt Consolidation Program, I was advised not to take the calls anymore. Two days later while I was at work I was told that I had a phone call on line 1. I picked it up and it was Mike Peterson from Stoneleigh Recovery.
He then proceeded to transfer me to his boss Robert or Russell Wallace...This guy had names of my family members and asked how each one was related to me. He then told me that if I was unable to make payments, he would contact them on "my behalf" and ask for the money. I told him that I didnt have a bank account (which is true) because I had to close it...I have a savings account with a bank but wasnt sure if I had a checking account.
He then 3 way called the bank so that he could listen in on the conversation while I asked if I did have a checking account with that bank after I already told him that I didn't. He asked if I had a boyfriend and when I asked him what that had to do with anything he replied in a sarcastic and mean tone, "I could care less if you have one or not, my main concern is getting this money and if you could use his account then we should."
These people are rude and sarcastic and threaten you with stupid things. Do not give in!!!

Jane, First of all, you miscategorized your post. This is NOT a "civil rights" violation! There is a category for debt collections here on ROR. Proper category selection is essential for others to be able to find your post and it will be with other debt collections offenders. Second, STAY OFF THE PHONE!!! Never speak to any third party debt collector on the phone!! Third, NEVER use those debt management / debt consolidation companies! You WILL be sorry. They cannot do anything for you that you cannot do yourself. They have no legal authority and most creditors will not even deal with them. Many will not even pay off your debts and you will still end up being sued and get your wages garnished. Finally, read the FDCPA and learn your rights. You have the right to CEASE COMMUNICATIONS with any third party debt collector. This is FEDERAL LAW. One written request by certified mail is all it takes. Then you can get paid if they violate your request. Knowledge is power. Get some of each.
