Hello,
I wanted to respond to the above complaint against Danbury Stop and Shop as I have had a similiar experience, with the exception of I do not know anyone employed there.
Stop and shop is one of the few stores open late until 12 am , and I have completely stopped going there due to multiple occurences of which I was afraid and intimidated by employees at the store.
There are many men working there , usually in the later hours between 10pm-12 am who are restocking the shelves.
Due to my work, I can only go shopping during certain hours usually, so many times I would find myself needing to stop there until it got so bad I couldnt go there anymore and would just get fast food since no stores were open.
The men I am referring to are employees that are towards the back and seem to be restocking the shelves. Around 10 -11pm, they roll out massive pallets of products in tall plastic covering, and completely close up the aisle so that it is impossible to go down the entire back most aisle where the meat/refrigerated foods are usually kept. If you want to get something from that section, you have to leave your cart outside of the aisle and walk inbetween and sometimes on top of the pallets. While you are attempting to do this, there are several middle aged men in non uniforms using vulgur language, tossing boxes in the air past your head , and generally being loud and abnoxious. One would think you walked into a sports bar instead of a grocery store.
On almost every occasion of visiting the store, at least two men would stare at me inappropriately. They would stare as I walked down the aisle , while looking me up and down , and constantly appearing out of nowhere throughout the store acting like they were "doing their job" when in fact it seemed like they just wanted to stare at me. They come down the aisle with one or two things completely seperate from things seen on the pallet, and pretend to put them on the shelves. Sometimes they will yell to each other if you are walking near the main aisle next to checkout and stare at you while they are doing it as if to show off and/or get your attention.
These men all look , to be honest, like convicted felons. They are unshaven and often smell of alcohol.
The people at the checkout are usually friendly but seem like they would not care if I reported any of these things.
It has gotten to the point where I have completely stopped going to this location and any other Stop and Shop all together. I can not believe that this behavior is allowed but it has been happening for so long it seems like the management must not care.
I feel bad for any other women shopping alone at night here, as it is a very unsafe and unsettling shopping experience past 10:30 pm.
