Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

April 9, 2014 Kaleb and another representative showed up and said there was a storm that occured May 18, 2013. Several homes sustained roof damage in the area and wanted to inspect our roof in order for us to file a claim that would repair the main roof to the house. Once the inspection was complete, the total damage which included damage to the main house and also to the carport and storage shed. Total damage was almost $7,000 to repair. Minus my $2000 deductible that would leave roughly $5000. Storm Team Construction would pocket that entire amount minus labor and supplies. Kaleb, once we received the first check from my bank, crunched some numbers and said with what the bank will pay, you can get the architectural style roof and some other materials that you normally get any way with a new roof, started adding to the $5000 which at this point was coming out of my pocket, even though I already paid my deductible of $2000. So basically if the roof, rpairs, and labor came to $3000, $2000 was the profit to be made by Storm Team Construction. So I contracted another company who was recommended by my Bank, to have the repairs done for around $3000, which STC would have done for $5000 for the same roof style including materials and labor. So they would have made a $2000 profit and they were also trying to sell me the more expensive roof styles that would have come out of my pocket. Get a estimate from various companies first and compare to what these scammers calim they can do it for and challenge their prices so you will not end up scamming your insurance company.

Storm Team Construction trying to sell BS...oh my! What a shocker.

The bullshit that I can see right off attempting to be sold by Storm Team Construction is that the Insurance companies set the price. Most people don't understand the claim process and that might work for them, but not me. That's a line of total BS. And Storm Team knows it.

What the customer signed, and perhaps shouldn't have, gave Storm Team all rights to negotiate the claim for the roof repairs and I'm sure they said the customer could add in the rest when the insurance adjuster came to the property to access the damage. Which I'll get into later...

Storm Team knows the insurance company will more than likely use Xactimate to compare their bid to which is exactly what Storm Team does, put in a claim/bid for the cost of the repair. Storm Team also I'm sure knows close to the max amout the insurance will pay out for such a repair and will try to stay just under in order to maximize the claim amount.

Are they going to make profit - oh sure they are. If no one made profit, companies couldn't survive. How much profit... i don't know for sure.

Generally what ever your home has on it as far as shingles, that's what will be replaced with and the insurance company is required to bring your home back to "pre loss conditon" meaning if you had Architectual shingles, they will cover the cost of Architecutal shingles. It's not an upgrade... it's what you had. If you had three tab, they will replace them with 3 tab. Sometimes they will pay for a better quality or style over what you have existing if it means less pay out in the future. After all they are banking on you not making a claim and thats how they make profit/money.

The fact the customer chose not to go through their insurance company and went through their bank as they are stating. That makes a difference as to whether or not Storm Team is owed anything.

As for the 72 hours to cancel, Storm Team knows full well 3 days will come and go before any action is taken by anyone. They may not even get the insurance adjuster over there with in 3 days.. so nothing has really happened within 3 days to make you want to cancel. After all, they sold you on the fact they are handling everying in your best instrest right?Or is it their best interest? I never can keep that straight.

I can say after seeing the next part of the equation, the contract Storm Team uses, you are very lucky in many ways you did not go with Strom Team.

The warning about Scams or Bad contractors is to:

A} Never pay a contractor in full. Never... Yet Storm Team Construction states "All monies pay for on the claim are to be signed over to them with in 3 days." That means all monies. All monies for other damage or monies for other contracted work already paid for or in progress if included in the claim. Most times all work is one claim, you don't make a seperate claim for each contractor or each part of the house. It's all damage on one claim. So Storm Team is paid in full, minus the depreciation which they get once the job is completed and all other monies from the claim and refuse to start work untill they recieve all moneies paid out by the insurance company. Which the contract states if your intitled to a refund, they refund... but when do they refund it? When they get their depriciation from the insurance company more than likely puttting you on the line to pay all other contracted work out of pocket.

The warning about roofing scams which is well documented expecially concerning AOB scams... and how they work is: They get you to sign a contract giving them full right to do all the negotiations with the insurance company concerning the claim. They get you to sign an AOB ( assignment of benifits) giving them rights to all monies paid out by the insurance company on the claim.

And with the page they uplaoded themselves - how is that different than what Strom team is doing?

The initial page signed gives them all rights to negotiate the claim. The First page of their contract assigns all benifits/monies from claim to them. Though it's in really tiny print, it's there.

There's a whole lot more I can get into but won't.

If something looks like a scam, acts like a scam, is worded like a scam and goes against all warnings... it's probably a scam. Just saying.

Storm Team was charging the insuramnce compmay for damages outter structure but not repairing them. Charging more for the main roof, when a basic roof is fine. Now That's insurance Fraud!!!

#5REBUTTAL Owner of company

Sat, February 27, 2016

We are a family business with three generations working together to provide a company that operates with integrity. We have received the prestigious Guild Quality Guildmaster award for customer service, The UASRC rates the top storm restoration contractors in the nation, and we won their customer service award this year. We maintain an A+ rating with the BBB while building over 50 million dollars in the last 7 years. We take our reputation seriously.

I will refrain from publicly naming this homeowner. Our company had a signed contract to build their roof for the amount the insurance company agreed to pay. We do not set the price! The insurance companies adjusters come out, inspect the roof, and write an estimate. We agree to do the roof for whatever they pay.

IF the homeowner decides to upgrade to a more expensive shingle, that is their perogative, but the insurance will not pay for that. We do the upgrade at our cost, which is generally only a few hundred dollars more, for a much better roof. In this case the homeowner had an outdated shingle, and wanted a much better looking, and longer lasting shingle. The insurance company does not pay for that, they only pay for what you have. If they want the same shingle they had to be put back on, their is no cost.

As far as their bank (I assume they actually meant their insurance company) referrring them to a contractor that did the job for $2000 cheaper, I would ask, why did the insurance company offer to pay $5000 in the first place? Did they only pay out $3000 dollars on the claim then? Did the insurance company still pay $5000 and the homeowner put the other $2000 in their pocket? I would like to know. In our experience insurance companies only pay what it would take to properly replace the damaged item, they are not in the business of overpaying. Insurance companies only pay out RCV or replacement cost value. That is not an arbitrary figure, it is established by industry standard software.

This homowner had a contract with us to build their roof. Once we met with their insurance company, and established the damage, and scope of work, they defaulted on their contract. There is a $1500 fee for cancellation after 3 days, and that is in bold capital letters.  When we approched them for collections after they defaulted, they posted the above complaint. Below is a copy of the front page of our contract they signed clearly explaining all of the above.

STORM TEAM CONSTRUCTION, INC. (STC) will be providing professional services for the above listed property owner. IF THE INSURANCE CLAIM IS APPROVED, ALL WORK SET FORTH IN SAID CLAIM WILL BE CONTRACTED TO STC. ALL WORK WILL BE DONE AT THE PRICE AGREED UPON BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND STC WITHOUT ANY COST TO THE OWNER. (except insurance deductible and voluntary upgrades) IF THE INSURANCE COMPANY DOES NOT APPROVE THE CLAIM, THE PROPERTY OWNER IS NOT OBLIGATED TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT AND WILL OWE NO FEE FOR SERVICES. It is agreed that should the property owner cancel this contract after the claim is approved that STC is entitled to liquidated damages of $1500.00 or 25% of total claim, whichever is greater.

So, the truth is, they defaulted on their contract, they owe us a $1500 cancellation fee, and if they supposedly saved $2000 and kept it, that... is insurance fraud.

Thank You Ripoff Report for giving us a fair opportunity to respond.
