After sitting down with the dean of business administration for the Master's Degree at Strayer University (I hate using university after the name as this is not a higher learning institution) I was informed that it was fully accredited and would provide me the additional hours I would need to reach the 150 hour CPA licensing requirement. I was provided with accreditation documents and the assurance from the dean that Strayer would provide me a respected degree.

After  more than two years of school and only one semester left to graduate I received an e-mail notifying me that my program was being discontinued due to courses in the program not being recognized by the South Carolina Board of Accountancy. I was provided one option at the time to change my degree plan and retake courses. I called the new dean of business administration to discuss what the issues were and was told the SC association just made this decision. I then contacted the SC association and was provided board minutes and documents showing Strayer's courses were never accepted and it was Strayer's decision to discontinue the degree program. The SC association did not care what degree was received they were only concerned with the hours needed to qualify. I again contacted the new dean to discuss this new information and she only argued and put the blame of the discontinued program on the SC association.

I then demanded my money back as I had just wasted a tremendous amount of time, money and energy and was not going to take another chance in another program with them. I was told I should move to another state where the program was still accepted by the licensing board. Of course this was just ridiculous and only made me even angrier.

I have since moved on and earned my Master’s Degree from a localy accredited university with a great reputation. I also sued Strayer to recover my money and was paid back in full.

On a side note: I was on multiple interviews and when I explained the length of time it took to complete my Master’s Degree. I explained my Strayer issue and was told in most interviews that I would have never even been considered if my degree came from that institution.
