I'm posting this again as I just read a huge thread of others receiving sick dogs from this breeder. Here is our story of which a friend of hers just swore obsenties ignorantly before even reading the facts about the conditions my dogs who are still very young for their breed have.
They are congentital, breeder related conditions that can be prevented. I'm not posting to receive compensation back on all the medical bills we have paid in trying to help our dogs survive with the best quality of life they can have given the horrific diagnosis of which you can read about below. I want to prevent this type of torture from other dogs as well as educate new clients looking for a Chihuahua to learn about all the facts and do your research. Don't buy your dogs online.
Request full Veterinary health reports on a puppy you are considering and ask for documentation on genetic testing of their breeder dogs to make sure all measures are taken in consideration to preventing breeding dogs with Chiari Malformation, Syringomyelia and Hydrocephalous!
Very heartwrenching health challenges to watch these little guys deal with. There are no treatment options to help without harming their bodies more as they can only offer steroids and pain meds which will cause further health issues more leading to an even more rapid decline. if anyone else has dogs with this condition I urge you to post here and help open the eyes to some of these ignorant breeders.
Here is our story and if you search for Summerset Kennels I have photos posted as well in my original post. I didn't realize others have posted here and am saddened to hear of more sick dogs and the lack of kindness and bs rebuttals posted of the victims that trusted in this breeder. Hoping we can get them to stop breeding these sick doggies just to profit. These conditions are some of the worst amounts of pain any animal can suffer. For the owner it's very costly. Only way to properly diagnose it is through costly MRI scans of which many I'm sure cannot afford to pay.
My original post:
We purchased two puppies from Angie Hernandez of Summerset Kennels both of which are suffering greatly at the hands of poor breeding with a condition called Syringomyelia, Chiari Malformation and Hydrocephalus. Basically they are bred with extremely small skulls of which do not allow room for the size of their brains. It's one of the most painful conditions out there. Humans that suffer with it say it's the worst headache/migraine ever imaginable.
We are devastated to have found out this diagnosis. The only way to find out is by a very expensive MRI. Our Chihuahua's are only age 3 and 8. We have wracked up Vet bills to about $10K and counting. Who knew such sweet little dogs could cost so much but we can't put a price on our love for them. There is basically no treatment options other than pain management.
Due to their small size and delicate systems we had no luck with the medications and they proved more harmful then helpful causing food bloat, vomiting and diarrhea which made them feel worse then just the pain from their disorders.
What did Angie do when I emailed her about this? Absolutely nothing! Buyer Beware! Our hearts are broken.
