LANSING - A former Lansing police sergeant faces many charges in connection with many rental scams.

Charles Funk, 47, of Okemos, is under investigation with many house rental scams in greater Lansing area, many sources and victims reported.

Funk was serving on LPD when these incidents happened, the one victim said. Federal Agencies investigated the complains of many Asian American's and found evidence that Funk's involvement in rental scam.

Funk, an 18-year member of the department, his employment with LPD was terminated, Lansing police Chief Mike Yankowski said in a news release. The department will do an internal investigation on citizen's complains, Yankowski said.

Detectives with the Meridian township police economic crimes bureau said squatters and rental scams continue to impact the real estate market. Funk rent a house and then fails to pay rent and squatter and wreck the house when evicted.

It is a big issue in Greater Lansing Area, where in many Asian communities, renters and homeowners are victims.

Charles Zachary Funk, resided on following four addresses:

(((REDACTED)))Holt, Michigan, MI (((REDACTED)))

(((REDACTED))), Holt, Michigan (((REDACTED)))

(((REDACTED))) Okemos, MI, (((REDACTED)))

Charles Funk was evicted from many houses in East Lansing, Lansing, Haslett, Bath Twp, Dewitt, Okemos and Holt Twp.

An Asian landlord shared with us the difficulty he is currently experiencing with the tenant who is Charles Funk. These tenants are trying to intimidate the landlord in order to keep a security deposit, live rent-free or otherwise violate the lease agreement.

Landlords don’t have to tolerate harassment, intimidation or threats from tenants.

If a tenant threatens you with legal action, ask to speak with the attorney they claim is representing them. Get the lawyer’s phone number and give them a call. Lawyers have an ethical obligation to follow the law, and cannot encourage a tenant to pursue a course of action that is not justified.
