assisted living regulatory guidelines in most states are minimal. Sunrise can skirt the regulations because they do not accept Medicare or Medicaid dollars. They are strictly private pay and accept some private insurance. These loopholes allow sunrise to get away with murder- very little oversight by state agencies that protect seniors, no regulatory guidance to support a surveyors findings of deficiencies and to top it off, sunrise employs the best legal team in the business to rebuke complaints and battle lawsuits. Many claims are settled without public knowledge. They say they operate under a " social model"not a "medical model." seniors with medical conditions can enjoy the one activity actually offered, afternoon cocktails in the bistro, but never get their blood pressure checked or their prescribed medications.

I am a former staff member of Sunrise of Monterey, Ca.and I can honestly tell you, they have eitherstolen or tacked on additional charges to many ofour Residents accounts. Many of which were questioned by some of the Residents. Still no answers have been obtained for these Seniors. Our seniors living on a fixed income, should not be havingtheir bank accounts drained. I do believe this to be abuse. We also had a death at our faucility that was atributed to negligence from the Nursing staff. I had to watch this poor Family suffer with their loss and many of our caregivers as well. But corporate always the heartless bastards they are, had no answers for the Family or Staff. The truth of the matter as put by one of the Nurses was: If we send out this resident, she probably wont be back. Thus keeping her safe and healthly was not a priority, only her CASH was. Unfortunately she died at the Hospital 2 days later. Even the Physician commenting'; if she only came sooner. A full week had passed, before her treatment was started. We have more issues by staff still working for Sunrise, I hope they post their issues. Can I e-mail them your website?

If this facility is JCAHO accreditated then contact them Contact your State Department on Aging and file a complaint I did my Social Work internship in a nursing home and any complaint will be investigated - believe me I went through a State investigation and it was brutal!!!
