Below is a copy of the screenshot (minus personal infomation) that I received when I made my reservation on 10/16/2010.  I was to be in Marion, OH for training on 10/26/2010 so I made a reservation for the night of 10/25/2010.  As you can see, it clearly states that I can cancel up to 6 pm on 10/25/2010 (the actual date of my reservation). 
In the meantime, my planned training was cancelled 9due to job layoff) and, early on the morning of 10/24/2010 I called the Super 8 Motel's so-called customer service line (800-800-8000) in order to cancel.  At this point, some English challenged individual informed me that my reservation was NOT cancellable and that I needed to check the confirmatin e-mail that they had sent me for the details.



First of all, they had NOT sent a confirmation e-mail.  Secondly, the screen shot clearly states that you can cancel up until 6 pm on the actual date that the reservation is for.  I asked to speak to a supervisor and was given a number to call after 7 a. (800-454-3509).  I called the above number and someone named "Ray" (unsure of spelling) told me the same thing.  I also notified her that this was NOT disclosed whren I made the reservation or I would NEVER have agreed and made the reservation.  Furthermore, that, since I am currently unemployed, being charged $60 + $$$ for a room I was not using was going to be a real hardship.



But this is NOT a matter of buyer regret.  I was NEVER notified that I would not be able to cancle this reservation.  I would never have agreed to that.



Pleas edo NOT let these people rip you off.  Makes your reservations elsewhere with some motel that is honest and forthright.

I can also report a similar situation, this time for TWO reservations I made at a Days Inn (another Wyndham property) in Satellite Beach FL.  As far as Days Inn is concerned, I'm out the money for my reservations in April and June, and unless I can get someone at Wyndham to reply or call me back, I'll probably be eating nearly $500 in room charges when I won't even be spending a minute in the rooms! 

Has anyone every successfully talked their way out of this situation?

I had the same experience at motels in San Diego and Baltimore. Apparently if tyou book the cheapest rate itcan bea prepaid booking with no cancellation. The confirmation doesn't say it isbut if you call the hotel to cancel they tell you. It is someplace on the reservation website but not prominently stated. Luckily I could "sell" my room to a business partner who was staying an extra night.

If you are booking on line read all the small print and if you are unsure CALL the motel or hotel before booking a room.
