Superior Asset Management ripoff Fort Walton Beach Florida
After a long disputing my bill with Alltel, they passed my account on to a collection agency. I received a letter from Superior Asset Management offering to settle my account for half of the original balance. I agreed to it and payed by phone using a "check by phone" process. I never received any sort of confirmation letter or phone call. A month and a half later, SAM called my place of business saying that I still owed them the other half of the balance. I argued saying that I had settled at which point the woman apologized and hung up.
Now, in November, four months later, I have received a letter from another collection agency requesting the other half of the original balance from Alltel. I called SAM and they told me that it was Alltel's fault and to call them. Alltel said that I needed a letter from SAM verifying that the balance was settled. SAM refused to send me a letter, saying that "I didn't need it" and that if the new collection agency wanted to contact them, that they would clear my name (which of course, isn't worth anything).
Come to find out, SAM does not have the authorization to offer settlements. The whole thing is a scam to collect as much money as possible for the delinquent account. Whatever is not collected is sent on to another agency or back to the original debtor. SAM will not clear your name with the credit bureaus.
Their main objective is to take your money and get you off the phone as quickly as possible once you discover the scam.
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY! YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A RECEIPT, NOR WILL YOU CLEAR YOUR CREDIT.
The only proof I have of this entire charade is the carbon copy of the check that I gave them (which by the way, they do not use an actual check number so as to make it harder to trace)
