Next time, save your money in a bank & get some interest. Your tastes, needs, and wants may have changed by the time you are ready to buy, and very few consumer goods are made in the limited numbers that truely makes a layaway justified. Right now, you are another creditor. Check with the bankruptcy court ASAP.

Ooo, ouch. Unfortunately, when a company goes belly-up, everyone has to get in line to pick at the carcass, and customers are way, way down on the list. This happened a LOT after the holidays last year. There was a huge push to sell gift certificates and gift cards, (free money for the companies, yay) and then they went out of business, and the people were left with nothing. A few companies offered pennies-on-the-dollar, but most people got absolutely nothing back. Yep, even after stealing hundreds of millions of dollars that way, the stores and companies burned right through that, too. Save your money, and at least look this stuff up online first. You're never going to see any of that money again. They don't have it to give to you, and they don't have any assets either (well, they won't by the time you get to have a go at them, after the government and corporate creditors and other types).
