I ordered a 20"TV/DVD/VCR combo from Sweepstakes Clearinghouse in February 2005. I put $10.00 down to hold it for me. The price was to be $189.00 after the voucher was used. When the bill came in March, my balance was $231.59.

On April 3rd,2005 I sent a check for $231.59 to them to pay off the TV. In the first part of May, I received a post card stating they had received my payment and I could expect shipment of my merchandise within 30 days. My check for $231.59 cleared my account on April 15th, 2005.

On June 4th, 2005, I received a letter stating that I needed a physical address to send the merchandise to. I filled the request out sitting in the post office parking lot, bought my stamp and mailed it back to them that day.

This gift was bought for my son's 12th B-day on June 27th, 2005. I figured by ordering in February I would have plenty of time to receive it for his B-day. Boy was I wrong!!!

I came to this website and seen stories about being ripped off by this company. I found the # for Sweepstakes Clearinghouse and I called it June 27th, 2005. A recorded message tells me that my shipment is being delayed because I have an outstanding balance of $1.06.

I immediately copied my check and stub and I wrote a letter to them again with a check for $1.06 enclosed and my physical address again! On July 5th, 2005, I received another letter telling me I need a pyhsical address for this merchandise to be delivered to me. I have received a total of 4 letters/cards from this company over a period of 3 months. No where on any of the material does it say I owe $1.06.!

I just e-mailed customer service with another letter and some not very nice words for them to send me my TV or send me back all of my money including shipping and handling within a week or I will go to someone to report them.

I wanted to get this out here for others to see and to make other arrangements if you wan to purchase anything, do not do it through them!!!

sweepstakes clearinghouse/crock of crap rebuttal

On June 4th I received a paper in my P.O. box stating what their rebuttal says about needing my physical address. The paper was dated May 27th. I sat in my car, filled the paper out, went into the post office and mailed it back to them. When I called to check on my shipment of merchandise on 6-27-05, the recorded message said I had a balance of $1.06 and my shipment was being held up due to that balance! It said nothing about not having my physical address. So on June 28th, I copied the cancelled check that was dated for 4-15-05, my pay off stub from my records, my check for $1.06, and a note stated everything I have been through trying to get this T.V. along with my physical address, P.O. box, phone numbers and anything else I could think of and mailed it on 6-28-05. On 7-7-05, I e-mailed their customer service with another letter asking for my T.V. I located a number to a real person on this web-site and I called it around lunch the same day. It was a John G., I left a message and we played phone tag for that day. On 7-8-05, he called my cell phone and we spoke on the phone. He tried to tell me that the reason my shipment wasn't released is because they had no physical address. I told him of the 2 letters already sent to this company with the physical address. He said they just received my letter on 6-28-05. I didn't mail the second one until that date, (so I guess mail must have been extremely quick that day)! He said he was going to put a rebuttal on this site and I told him if he did, I would definitely respond back. He said he didn't want to play tit for tat on this site about this. But I guess we are because he just had to do a rebuttal. I paid for this merchandise and my check cleared on 4-15-05. Why did it take until the end of May to send me a letter for the physical address and then another letter the end of June for the same information? Why did the recorded message state that my shipment was being held up due to a balance of $1.06 instead of saying due to no physical address? Why can't you talk to a CSR when you call this number? He wanted to know what would it take to make me happy and I said to receive my son's B-day present! I had previously ordered 2 stereos from these people (they were late for gifts as well) and they both came to my P.O. Box with no problems. I will never open another thing they send me and I will continue to discourage people from using this company. I do not care what they say or do, they are a rip-off! This will be all for me unless they decide to do another rebuttal. Thank-you for this site and for giving me a chance to tell the truth about this company.

Response from Sweepstakes Clearinghouse

Thu, July 21, 2005

July 22, 2005 Dear Cynthia, We are in receipt of your message and appreciate the opportunity to respond. According to our records, we received an order from you on March 3, 2005. At that time a layaway account was established for the 24 TV/DVD/VCR. The size and weight of the box requires a physical shipping address to be shipped via United Parcel Service (UPS). Because you provided us with only a PO Box address, we were unable to the 24 TV/DVD/VCR to you. Therefore, we sent a letter explaining that we would need a physical address. When we did not receive a response from you, we sent a follow up letter that we needed a physical address in order to ship the 24 TV/DVD/VXCR. On June 28th we received your physical address and shipped your 24 TV/DVD/VXCR on July 7, 2005. Based on this information, we feel it was handled routinely. When we discussed this matter, you made it clear that there would be nothing we could do to make you a satisfied customer. We would like to point out that Sweepstakes Clearinghouse has been in business since 1984 and has thousands of happy repeat customers. The majority of our customers would disagree with your assertions. Of course, like any company, we cannot make everyone satisfied all the time. However, we are very fortunate to have a loyal following of customers who appreciate the value we provide. If you have any further questions, I may be reached at 214-915-7317. Sincerely, Sweepstakes Clearinghouse John Gutierrez Operations Manager
