Swift Transportation - Swift Academy ripoff denial of employment loss of u.i.compensation billing for required school Phoenix Arizona
Swift Academy and Swift Transportation had required me to attend their academy to be hired, with a letter of intent to hire after successful completion was acquired. A $3995.00 tuition was accepted given the amount would be paid back from wages earned after being employed by Swift. After working for them for 6 days I was told to get out of the rig roughly 1500 miles from my home terminal. A 3 day stay was granted to make it back but after working for Swift for 9 days they still demanded me to be released from service and pay back the $3995 for their academy. Now without a job doesn't it seem they are just doing this to ripoff people? It does to me!

I am a former OTR driver and trainer. Honestly, I spent only one year of my nine in trucking as a trainer. Why? Because too many of the students simply could not hack it. No, it's not easy. And I was amazed that some of these students, all of whom had graduated from a trucking school (as I had), AND had passed our company road test, could be so clueless under the wheel. A driver is the king of multi-tasking, and I'm NOT talking about driving, drinking coffee, and yammering on the CB at the same time. A driver is constanly making decisions, conciously and unconciously...adjusting speed, lane position, etc. The biggest problems of students were inability to read road signs (or just not being able to do so while driving), and developing the absolutely necessary skill of looking ahead...FAR ahead, whether it was in traffic, or getting off a ramp and scanning the area to see which turn lane you needed (were there two turn lanes? Three? Could you turn right on red? Is there a crosswalk? These all have to be discerned as you are approaching the area). Anyone can go up and down the interstate. Could you turn properly? Were you making measurable improvements after the first week? If not, why not? If you were booted after nine days, I'm guessing there was a problem with your performance. However, ANY student should get a chance with a second trainer, as there can always be a conflict of personalities, an inability of the trainer to communicate effectively, etc. Of course, unless the student does something so unsafe as to cause potential harm to anyone. What you say here is one thing but you left out exactly what you did. Maybe because what you did any normal person or company would have fired you also.
