PLEASE READ & RETHINK STAYING HERE!

I am an incredibly heartbroken, bride-to-be.  It makes me tear up thinking that because of Marino Tomacelli, the owner of Taninah Resort (“Taninah”), our wedding that was supposed to take place in 2016       is now post-poned until we make back the $17,000 that he will not return to us.  So please, if you are thinking about staying here, read my review, as you might change your mind.

We originally set a wedding date of December 31, 2016. On January 14th we paid our security deposit of $1,500.  On January 27 we paid our initial payment of $15,862 toward our reservation date in December, nearly 11 months out.  On February 11, 2016 I received an email stating that the wrong rates had been charged, and that we now owed approximately $6,000 more than the agreed upon amount.  See the email below:

"Hi Lindsay,

I just wanted to let you know that the payment calculation sheet was not done properly. I did the non-holiday rates, and you are going during holiday time. Although this is my error, it is very clear in all the correspondence that I have sent that the rate is 150 and then 170 for when you drop numbers. Also, to keep in mind, this time always requires a minimum of 20 people staying, which you do have, so that isn’t a problem. I’ll send the new rate calculation sheet over and I’ll ask if you can send the difference in as well.

Again, I do apologize for this error, but our rates are clear. Look for that in the next few minutes.

Regards,

Cassie"

On February 19, 2016, I requested, by phone and email, that the first payment be reimbursed, as the new total was not the agreed upon amount, and we did not have an additional $6,000 in our wedding budget.  I was told by Mr. Tomacelli that the amount was non-refundable.  At the time, my fiancé and I understood that Taninah would keep the security deposit, as that is typically non-refundable.  We did not understand, however, why we would not be refunded the remaining amount, since we had not agreed to pay the additional $6,000.  We believed our contract with Taninah was null and void due to the resort’s mistake.  We would not have paid the initial payment of $15,862 had we known that our reservation total was yet another $6,000.

The $17,000 wasn't just vacation money... this was a HUGE chunk of our wedding budget.  I believe that it is so incredibly wrong and disrespectful when a company changes a contract by increasing the amount by $6,000, and then refuses to return the money due to its own mistake.

PLEASE, imagine yourself in this awful situation, during your engagement, and rethink before you book at this resort.
