Never ever accept a contract from German Telecom (or Telekom)! I've had no other choice several times and I have regretted it every time!

First off, they charged me top dollar just to get the flat rate for Internet access. The flat fee was only available for their 6K+ speed package even though in my area only 300kb/s were possible.

So for 10 years I payed for 6MB/s and received only 300kb/s just to get the flat rate. After paying way too much for over 10 years I was totally happy when I learned that LTE would be coming to the area; only to be told by telekom that "Existing DSL customers" are not eligeable for LTE. So I terminated the contract and got LTE from Vodafon.

In spite of the cancelation, Telekom charged me monthly for a whole year after the cancellation.

The same goes for other contracts. I had a cell phone contract and my son had an LTE package (although I warned him against it!)

We canceled both when we moved out of the county (back home to Texas.) Even though we no longer even live in Germany they just keep on billing me for services which I have long cancelled and can no longer use. All in all I estimate that Telekom charged me over $3000 for services which I had properly canceled and was not able to use.

Save yourself time, money and especialy agrivation. NEVER sign any contract of any kind with Telekom. You'll end up paying thousands for services you can not use!
