It may be a hassle but it will be a one time hassle instead of having to disbute charges against your account every month. I can't speak about your bank, but my bank allows me to obtain checks numbered out of the "starter check" range if I have had an account with them for a certain period of time and my account needs to be closed due to fraud. I couldn't hurt to ask.

Appx. 4 months ago, a vacation company called me. While in the process of talking with the man, he asked for checking acct. #. I told him no several times and he was very persistant with me. Finally after arguing with him, i just hung up. About a month after the phone call there was $150 deducted from my checking acct. The "preauthorized check" was made out to this vacation company(I can't remember the name). So I called the "800" number on the check and resolved the problem with them and got a refund. Two months later I had two deductions at $49.95 each from a company called Teliflex. I called the # on the "preauthorized check" and got an automated system. It didn't say anything about cancelling any accounts with them, or being able to talk with a customer service rep. So I called my bank and they told me there was nothing they could do about it because it was "preauthorized" through a phone call. They told me I would have to change my checking acct. I didn't want to go through the hassle. I've been with this bank for 4 years and didn't want to start with "starter checks" all over agian. Now today I was checking my acct. balance on the net and it showed another deduction of $49.95. When I called the number on the "preauthorized check" it wasn't even the right number!!!! The guy I spoke with said that they have had 100's of calls about Teliflex, and that I needed to file a report at this site. So I did. Now just waiting to here something. I want my money back, and I want the money it cost for overdraft charges too. And for all of you out there with a home phone and a checking acct. When someone calls you about vacations don't even talk to them just hang up the phone right away. And just to be safe call your bank and tell them you want a block on any "preauthorized checks" that come through, unless they have your approval. Thanks
