I work at a dollar Tree and our Store Does not have a public restroom either. Mostly all of the dollar trees do not have public restrooms because the stores are simply not big enough for restrooms. Some of the larger stores do have public restrooms. Most of the bathrooms in stores are located in the back stock rooms and customers are not allowed to go back there for insurance reasons. That is why employees are only allowed back there becuase employees have insurance through the company. The manager may have been having a bad day cause dealing with hundred of customers a day can get on their nerves and they have to put up with there employees. The retail business can be pretty stressful. The Store managers also have to work 50 hours a week which puts some stress on them and they may sometimes lose it when customers complain about there day. We are not allowed to give out any district managers numbers and do not have access to our corporate office numbers they have a dollar tree complaint line that customers cna call. They normally do call back promptly that I have seen.

To the person that was asking why they wanted to use the bathroom. You can't tell me that you have never been in a store or fast food restaraunt and have to use the restroom. The fact is the customer felt like he/she was being discriminated against and so went to another store to test out the scenario. Maybe they felt it was just the 1st store that did this. If you feel you are being discriminated against. Then I would talk with an attorney. They have ways of finding things for you and you may be able to get this settled. I have noticed things like that here in Louisiana. Hope everything works out for you.

I am an employee of a Dollar Tree store and this is from my experiences, maybe the employees were tired of cleaning up after people that do not know how to use a restroom properly, it gets very old and annoying, and in a lot of cases a health hazard to have to clean it up, and I am mostly referring to the adults, they are the worst of making messes and also not offering to clean it up after their own child has made the mess, and I dont mean just a little toiletpaper or drippings on the seat, and some arent sure where to even put the toiletpaper, for some reason they think it goes in the garbage can, how about TRYING THE TOILET.

The point that has been so far missed is wahy this individual feels the need to travel to these stores and try and use the bathrooms. Does he not have one at home? Does he have a weak bladder? Does he do this to other chain stores as well? Am I the only one who finds this strange?

But maybe it wasnt his race.. maybe it was his clothes, maybe he didnt smell as nice as the other people, maybe he had a bad attitude and they disciminated against that.. but the point is not what they didnt like about him, the point is that they discriminated. THis is not excusable in any situation. That is the fasted way to loose customers, I dont care how over worked and underpaid you are. and if you think you are underpaid before, wait till there are no customers to supply money for pay check. Calling corporate should have gotten a response.. several occasions I have recieved bad service and I go straight to corporate. I have always been taken care of afterwords so much to the point that I end up writing a follow-up thank you note to corporate. It should have to come to that. Employess should be made to give good customer service regardless of the situation. They should feel their jobs depend on it. And further more their jobs should depend on it. Some places do work this way, others dont. A sad truth, but the truth non the less. So maybe they dont discriminate against nonwhites they do. What ever they didnt like about him doesnt matter.. they should have treated him just any other customer. Thats all I want to say.

Why do you say it was because you were not white? You said a guy in a suit came out of the restroom, how were you dressed? How did you act? Is there something else where maybe they did not want you in their restroom? Maybe when the door is locked it means that it is out of order. The door was accidentally locked by previous customer......you told the manager it was locked....., and by their practices that means out of order. (There is a lot of different scenerios that could have explained your experience) Or maybe it was just BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. So the managers were not eager to help you. As DT is a discount house, you can bet those managers are overworked for near minimum wage. They probably just had more pressing things to do than help you to the potty or help you complain about them to their boss. You called a corporate number and go no response? Wow, that's unheard of. And - if you called my company griping about discrimination based on the story you told, I would'nt call you back either.
