Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
On April 29th, my wife took her mother to the Roomstore at 59th Ave and Bell Road in Glendale, to purchase some living room and bedroom furniture for the addition we built to our house for her.

She paid cash for the items which was a six drawer chest, two three door night stands, and an end table. The Sales Person told them that to deliver to Congress would be an additional $45.00. My wife told her to call when it came in and I would pick it up. When the call came in, I drove to the warehouse on the opposite side of Phoenix, and found that only the six drawer chest had come in. I was told the rest should be there in a week. A week later the Roomstore called and said the end table was in but not the night stands. I called a week later to the store and spoke to a woman who answered the phone and asked about the night stands. She checked and told me they would not be in until the following week, and because of the delay, inconvience and distance to travel, she would have it delivered to the store which was much closer.

I called the week when I had been told it would be in and found the night stands were not in yet. I then spoke to the salesperson and asked her what the delay getting the furniture was. She gave me a song and dance that the furniture was not ordered until it was purchased. I then asked her about delivery to us and she told me it was $90.00 for delivery. I told her that she had told my wife when they bought the furniture that delivery was $45.00. She denied that and told me my wife was wrong.

My wife found a message on our phone recorder that the entire purchase was finally in and could be picked up. I called the store and was told by the recepionist or whoever it was, that the furniture was at the warehouse on the east side of Phoenix. I told her what the other person told me and she said they could not do that because, "It would be a Fire Hazard."

At that point I had had enough of the delays and stories and told her that. I finally decided she was in no position to do anything constructive and hung up.

I then told my wife who called the store and demanded to know why they treat old returning customers so badly. She told them in the past we had purchased an entire living room suite, and a bedroom suite and wasn't there any kind of loyalty to old returning customers.

The delivery cost was then qouted to her as now $99.00, but another day for delivery suddenly appeared, instead of just the third Wednesday, they also delivered to our area on the first Wednesday. She was also told that if we wanted to pickup the furniture it would be at the store on Wednesday. "I guess the fire hazard isn't as bad as first suspected?"

In short, I feel we have been lied to, that we were not told ahead of time when I first went to pickup the furniture that the enitre purchase would not be there, that a representative of the store said that because of the inconvience to us the furniture could be picked up at the store, that we have been given differnet stories on when the furniture would be available, that the furniture could not be delivered to the store because it was a fire hazard, that the price of delivery went up twiced from $45.00 to $90.00 and then $99.00, that the furniture could now be picked up at the store, and that they delivered only on the third Wednesday of the month to our area, and magically another delivery date came up.

We will not go back to the Roomstore, we will never purchase anything else from the Roomstore, and we will make a concentrated effort to make sure all of our friends and anyone who might be looking for furniture know what we've gone through at the Roomstore.

I'll be going to the Roomstore this coming Wednesday to pickup the furniture, I wonder what will happen?

April, I don't know what store you worked at either The RoomStores of Phoenix or Sam Levitz in Tucson. The RoomStores of Phoenix and Sam Levitz have no affiliation other then the owners are relatives. Sam does not own The RoomStores of Phoenix. As April stated above the salesman/woman do not know what goes on after the purchase is made until someone brings up the problem to them. The people that need to be called during an issue like this is the warehouse. The warehouse is the communications to the suppliers and the deliveries. Most furniture is IN STOCK at The Roomstores of Phoenix. I am surprised that when you purchased your merchandise it was not actually in stock. Bob, I am disappointed in the fact that the salesperson changed the delivery cost on you. If this is the case you should have talked to the manager and let him/her know what happened. The mis-quoted delivery cost should have been handled by either manager or the salesperson in question. I don't know the span in time between the different delivery costs, but I would like to know that. Since if there was a few months in between and fuel costs went up, it could justify for a slight increase, but not double of previously quoted delivery costs.

If they didn't "tell" you that the merchandise would not arrive all at the same time, why wouldn't you call and verify that it was all in stock before making the long drive to pick it up? One simple action on your part could have prevented this entire situation.

Ripping the salesperson doesnt help

#7UPDATE EX-employee responds

The salespeople are ususlly giving you information they are told is true. If they sell a protection package, they think it works. If the delivery fails or something happens to there item, they are so far removed from that so they are powerless to help you anyway. They are told nothing unless customer complains or the sales manager guts their commission unannounced. They are not informed of what happens after the sale is dumped into the computer. What they tell you and what the warehouse does are not even connected. By the way the AZ stores are owned by Sam Levitz in Tucson.

Just stating the facts, John., Arizona RoomStores are NOT a part of the RoomStore Inc., which was owned by Heilig Meyers

John, If you carefully read my prior response, I signed it Steve in Houston... That's a long way from Phoenix. I don't know how the Arizona RoomStore does business, or what their delivery policies are. If you are asking my opinion, MicroFiber should be treated, if protection is paid for. As I said before, the Arizona RoomStores are NOT a part of the RoomStore Inc., which was owned by Heilig Meyers. If you go to the websites,(as suggested in my prior post), you can see the difference. That being said, please leave me out of any future arguements with Arizona RoomStore, To steal a saying, "What happens in Arizona RoomStore, stays in Arizona..." Good luck with your situation. I simply wanted to correct the previous writer by saying that they are a national company. They are not. They are strictly in Arizona. Good night, and God Bless.

Dear Bob, Sad to say.. but youre not alone with being quoted the wrong price on delivery. I can bet that the salesperson who was problary new and was never told of what RoomStore calls their outta town deliveries (which is much higher then the 45 for local)and this is a result from the training that is given to each salesperson. As far as training goes which is very little if any. IN FACT the person who is in charge of training the new salespeople happens to have his own website here on RIP-OFF .His name is Bruce "CURLY" that in itself shows what kind of store you are dealing with. YES the Roomstore is one of the big guys in the Furniture biz and know that. Thus they can afford to lose customers like you and me everyday of the week and it wont effect them. I am amazed thou that everytime someone writes about the Roomstore here in Phx. Someone from another state is quick to let everyone know that they are not part of the chain that is nationwide owned by Helig Meyers group. Doesn't it seem strange that someone out there wants to keep the record straight? I mean why would they spend all that time doing that instead of handling their own problems? By the way ..last time I heard..there was a Steve that worked at corp. for the Roomstore. If Steve is so full of information ..maybe he can answer a few other questions about the Roomstore too! Like for example when you buy something from them and get the fabric protection on the Mirco Fabrics, do they actually spray the furntiure as the salesperson saids or not as I have heard ???? All I do know tha once they claimed to be the #1 store in Arizona but I beleive ASHLEY HOME STORES has that bragging right now. Is that not correct STEVE?

RoomStore's in Arizona are NOT national

#13Consumer Comment

Wed, June 15, 2005

The RoomStore, Arizona is totally different from The RoomStore, Inc. They are not affiliated with, nor are they a part of the RoomStore Inc. The companies were formed at the same time, using the same concept and Logos by family members well known in the Furniture industry, but once they were founded, they went in different directions. The RoomStore Inc. can be found at this website: WWW.Roomstore.com and you can see that the company has over 60 locations and that the Arizona stores are not listed with this company. In fact, there is a disclaimer on the front of the website that distances themselves from Arizona RoomStore. They are located at WWW.ArizonaRoomstore.com, and have only 8 locations. Just thought you'd like to know.

$90 or even $99 for delivery to Congress is not unreasonable

Let first start off by saying that I have never worked for the Roomstore. The Roomstore is a HUGE national chain. If anyone thinks that because they bought something from them at a prior date, and that they should get preferential treatment, or even slightly better treatment for being a return customer, they are wrong. The Roomstore doesn't care. With all the stores they have, with all the MILLIONS of dollars of furniture they move every month, with all the people that pass through their doors, they could honestly care less about any of them. You are just a sale, plain and simple, and for the most part, you have purchased furniture that is not of the quality that you either assume or have been made to believe it is. Why do you think they can sell as cheap as they do? It's not because they are buying in large quantities, which they are. Quantity discounts are based on container-full purchases, and the discount for container-full purchases vs. individual piece orders is minimal. Ok, back to the subject line of this post. Most companies in the Phoenix area charge AT LEAST $45-$60 dollars for what they consider "in town" deliveries. "In town" does not mean anywhere in the state. "In town" means anywhere within a reasonable distance from the store the merchandise was purchased from. Most stores in the Phoenix area don't even consider cities like Surprise, Avondale, Mesa, Chandler, Ahwatukee, Goodyear, Sun City, Sun City West, Sun City Grand, or Anthem to be "in town", thus charging more for delivery to those areas. Obviously, if they don't consider those cities to be "in town" they sure as hell wouldn't consider Congress to be "in town". I'm not trying to defend the run around that you got from the Room Store in any way. What I am trying to say is that $90 or even $100 for delivery to some place like Congress is VERY reasonable.

They Delivered, thank you Room Store, but we won't be back again.

After my wife called numerous times demanding to speak to someone in charge and getting passed around to everyone in the store except the manager, I think she even spoke with the janitor, she got a call back from a guy there who said that they would deliver the furniture, free of charge on Wednesday the first of June. A couple of days later, I found a voice mail from the room store that the furniture had arrived at the store, and we could come down and pick it up. So we waited, and yesterday afternoon the furniture arrived, delivered by two polite young men. Geez, if they had just done what they should have instead of jerking us around, and trying to duck the issue, I probably would have gone and picked up the furniture myself. So, we got our furniture, thank you Room Store, but we won't be back again.
