RE: case #'s 31WP1, 32CG9, and 32LQG
To whom it may concern,
I wish to express my deep disappointment in the way my problem with my phone has been handled. I purchased a General Electric phone in April but was unable to install it until September. When I did take it out of the box I found that I could not record a personal greeting on the voicemail, as if the microphone is broken. The default greeting works fine, but since I need to identify my household for friends who call and avoid confusion, I need to have a personal greeting. I could not return it to the store since 3 months had passed. (Boy, will I check things immediately from now on). Even though it has a GE label, I was directed to Thomson, Inc. Being stuck with this piece of trash, I called the 800 # for Thomson only to to get a recording directing me to a toll call 310-953-9028. After getting some instructions for a reset procedure which didn't fix the problem, I was told to mail the phone to
Thomson, Inc.
1101B Burgundy Drive
El Paso TX 78807
where I was told they would fix it or give me a working unit. The package was also insured and had a delivery confirmation receipt. (#03081400000082599371)
According to the USPS, they attempted to deliver on October 4, a Saturday, and left a notice. One week later I found that my phone was still at the El Paso post office. I called Thomson again, at my expense, to notify them that the package for them was at their post office and asked why they did not get it yet. I was told to contact the post office myself and given a new case #. Unfortunately the United States Postal Service told me they cannot redeliver a package unless they hear from the intended receiver, which would be Thomson. I called Thomson again, at my expense, to explain this to them and have them call the post office themselves to have the package redelivered. After spending a considerable amount of time on hold I was assured that the warehouse had been notified and again got a new case#.
Again, 4 days later I found the package was still undelivered. I called again asking why they still don't have my phone. More BS about the warehouse being notified again. It is now 1 week later, and again the track and confirm shows it is still sitting in El Paso undelivered. All someone has to do is call the post office to confirm there will be someone around when it is delivered.
I decided to do some research on Thomson, and now I realize I have been scammed. Various websites such as Ripoff Report, Complaints Board, and my3cents have documented dozens of complaints about Thomson products even though they were sold under RCA and GE brands as well as the poor customer service they had received. There wasn't a single response from the company or a satisfied customer. All who said they sent their defective products to Thomson were never given a working or new unit in return and have lost their money. All said never to buy any products associated with Thomson. I will have to join their ranks, adding my experience with Thomson on all complaint boards I can find. I realize that the postal service will return the unclaimed package to me shortly, and I will be out my money for this phone as well as the postage, insurance, and toll charges. This company is just a sham designed to yank the hard-earned money away from the American consumer, and companies like GE and RCA should be ashamed of themselves too as well as Office Depot for selling such crap. All will be getting this complaint as well, even though I expect to be told as other people were that they are not affiliated with Thomson. Well, sorry, if your name is on the box, it is your problem too.
If Thomson wants to correct this they still can, and then I will be happy to add a happy ending onto my complaints on the web for what it is worth.
Sincerely,
Joe
