I THINK IT IS TERRIBLE FOR TIME WARNER CABLE TO RAISE THEIR RATES IN FEBRUARY, THEIR RATES ARE HIGH NOW FOR WHAT YOU GET WHICH IS NOT A WHOLE LOT, IT IS JUST A BIG RIP OFF,

I am a cable Tech, and M Jackson Jon and Matthew you should all admit that you all work for a SAT co. and not ack like you don't

Give it up Matt you know as well as I do they didn't get ripped off, and M Jackson as far as you not having any outages well then you are one of the few. And Jon dish companies where not rated #1 in best service. they are rated #1 in best customer service. ,not quality of service provided to the home. Also Jon yes they may be 40% cheaper for a while, then when their bill goes up they will be paying just as mutch as the where or more. Let me put it this way yes you can get a cheaper rate with SAT service for a limited amount of time and when the special runs out, up goes the bill. I have never heard of just having to sign a one year contract usually it is for at least 2 years or more. And you usually have to agree on a package for your special that would normally run around 74 dollars a month but you would be able to get it for say aroung 45 dollars a month for a limited amout of time, also keep in mind that you will have to pay an extra $4.95 a month for each additional outlet that you want on the SAT service. And you might even have to pay extra to get your local channels depending on your area. And now just to set my stuff straight because I am a Communications Tech for a Cable company in Indiana. All cable companies are upgrading there networks to be able to offer faster broadband speeds, HDTV, video on demand, 100% digital tv service, DVR, and home phone service. This should be available in most cable systems by mid 2006. And last but not least to the OP, I take it you probably just had the Fullbasic cable that didn't include digital service, what you should do is call the cable co. and ask for a digital package that will lower your monthly bill. At my Co. we offer a wide veriety of digital packages, here is a partial list of things that cable can offer. With digital you have access to all the digital channels + ppv and you don't need to hook a phone line to the box just to order ppv like you do with SAT. You also get local wheather info and info on shows that you are whatching or shows that you might want to whatch up to 14 days in advance, you also would have access to Video on Demand which SAT dosn't have the ability to offer. Also if you have a problem and need a service call cable companies would come out to fix the problem for no charge depending on what the problem was, and then the service charge amount is only aroung 25 dollars , the SAT companies usually charge $75 dollars for a service call no matter what the problem is and if there is somthing wrong with the reciever you would have to buy a new one from them with cable if the reciever went bad we replace it for free. I could go on alot more but I have already taken to mutch room here, so just wanted to get some of this out there and maybe it will help with your delima

Cable and Dish are not the same

#4Consumer Comment

True that every company has their problems but they are NOT all the same! That's a ridiculous notion. For example...Consumer reports is well known and trusted as experts. they have compared Cable VS Satellite and Satellite has won every time and in every category including consumer satisfaction. They have reported 3 tomes and the last time was Nov 2005. Also, JD Power and associates have rated Dish Network and Direct the very best service in America 5 out of the past 6 years. Time warner was rated below average. People get more and pay up to 40% less with a Dish! So no that the giant cable monopoly is broken there is no reason not to switch to a dish.

You monkeys and your hatred/love for whatever service provider is completly inane and insane. Every compnay has it's short commings, and every company has its strengths. Cable raises its rates so you go to dish...oh dish is so wonderful b/c they have lower prices amazing customer support...yadda freakin yadda. The truth is that if your precious dish company did as much as one thing wrong you would be blasting them every bit as much as you are blasting your cable company for. Trust me there are every bit as many angry dish customers regarding bill hikes, service quality, customer support..etc as there are angry cable customers. You know why television service providers can charge so much? it is not just b/c of lack of comepetition it is b/c television is a luxury, it is entertainment. Some of you act like it is a necessity and that these ENTERTAINMENT providers are forcing you to spend money. If you have poor quality service and the company you are with refuses to help than by all means switch. If you are unhappy with your rate plan...than switch. Just know that the company that you are about to change to has more in common with your previous company than it has differences. What appears to be a sweet heart deal at first can and will become and headache in the time to come. No matter who you go through. If all things are truely equal and the only thing seperating cable TV from sattelite providers is pricing....Then why is there so many more cable customers than dish customers? surely in the past decade that sattelite TV has been relevant they could have put a much larger dent in cable tv's subscriber base if this were the case.

I am with you, Matthew of Omak, Washington! The smartest thing I did was to give TWC the BOOT!!!! I have never been more happy since. You are so correct in that the cable companies want you to believe that satellite is unreliable. I live in the south, where we are not thunderstorm shy. I have had my Direct TV now since May, and I am quite proud to say, I have had no outages! I live around many trees as well. Direct TV also has wonderful support, not to mention, all channels are digital. I have the Total plus which has the local channels as well as the music channels and plenty of their standards networks, ALL for $41.95 and after my 6 months, it goes to $51.95! Everyone has to make the best choice for them, but why keep paying more, and getting less!?

Matthew in Omak must not have paid!

The price for digital basic in the omak area and all of Charter for Washington, Oregon, and Northern California is $54.95 plus tax. If your bill was $83.00 then either you ordered ppv or you wern't paying your bill on time. That price has not changed in at least two years. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you inflate prices and slander companies with incorrect information.

Keep Your Receipt When Cancelling Service

#8Consumer Comment

Back in March 2000, I cancelled my service with Time-Warner Cable in Orlando, FL. I paid all monies owed and returned all cable boxes and remotes. I even returned the actual coax cable! I was handed a yellow receipt for the equipment return, and holding onto it was a lucky decision on my part. About a month later I received a bill from TWC demanding payment for the equipment that I "had not returned." I promptly scanned the yellow receipt with the date, time, and customer service rep's name circled in red, and sent that scanned copy to TWC. I never heard from them again. So always hang on to your receipts when you return equipment. You never know when they might try to getcha!

twc is upgrading all of their systems to digital cable

#10UPDATE Employee

Fri, February 13, 2004

The real reason the cable rate is going up in new york is because twc is upgrading all of their systems to digital cable that way you can acess movies on demand and dvr services. all of the analog equipment has to be replaces. the bright side is that with the digital service most problems can be solvd over the phone, unlike with analod equipment when you would have to wait serveral days to have a technition come check your cable box. the best thing about cable is that it is a luxury, and you can go your whole life without it and bejust fine. so if you think your paying too much then cancel it. its just like an apt; if you can't aford the rent, move somewhere cheaper. and yes twc does bill one month in advance. which makes perfect sence, if you don't pay your bill it is kind of hard to reposes a months the past months worth of cable.

Forget about Cable !! prices seem to be going up everywhere with just about every company

#11Consumer Suggestion

Wed, December 10, 2003

I say forget about Cable , their prices seem to be going up everywhere with just about every company , charter , Time warner, etc.. Are last bill with Charter Cable was 83$!! and all we had was digal basic , no movie channels or nothing like that, and not even a 100 channels all together and only the top half of them were digital the rest were analog. So what we did was called DirectTV! You can get a Satillite dish that comes with 2 Recievers and which will supports up to 4 seperate receivers max for $50. the cable company wants you to believe that Satallite is awful and no one wants it , but the truth is all of the 115+ channels you get with there BASIC package , are digital and come in VERY clear. There basic package with Local Channels (NY/LA)Fox,ABC,CBS,NBC and 3 receivers like we are using here comes to a total monthly bill of 51$. you can also see if your local city channels are aviable, alot are. for the ammount of money we paid for are last cable bill , 83$, we can get EVERY channel offered by DirecTV , Sports pack , every movie channel, HBO,CineMax,Showtime and alot more and each Movie Channel like hBO has like 5 different channels , each , like HBO 2 , HBO Family , HBO West , HBO East, ETC... , oh and not to mention they have there own free channels for customer information and even a FREEVIEW channel which often shows Music Concerts for FREE! They are always adding new channels too, its very nice. Last but not least it is INTERACTIVE, meaning you can order stuff you see on some channels , check your weather on a certian channel and order PPV movies with the remote! Also they have Interactive menus that pop up on many different channels that give you info about the show your watching , and some even have pop quizes about the shows , and tell when there going to be on next. its all really sweet and free! :) SOrry to take up your time reading this but i would deffinetly look into it , there customer service is also excellent. Only real downside is that you have to commit to a year long contract , but with this quality of service , 1 year will come and go by like -- that! Thanks for listening :)

You have NOT been ripped off!

#12Consumer Comment

I fail to see the rip-off here ... because there wasn't one! Yes, Time Warner Cable raised their rates. In fact, they were so kind as to inform every one of their customers, in writing, about this fact well in advance of the rate hike. Just because you are unsatisfied with the rate hike (aka, cheapskate) does not mean that you were ripped off. Guess what - it is TWC's right to change their rates whenever they please. If you do not like it, then may I suggest investing in a set of rabbit ears for your TV, and cancel your cable service entirely. That way you don't have to worry about ill-perceived "rip offs" that never occurred in the first place.
