well folks, hate to tell ya, but angie is right....the tires plus in cookeville was crooked!!! the husband /wife team that was in charge of it back then were making bank on the side! in fact, i do believe that they were fired! i want to say that there was a lawsuit at some point, then a new guy came in , believe his name was perelli or something like that. not sure who's in charge now, i've never gone back since our bad experience there.

Now I NEVER said that I was a mechanic nor do I profess to be one. I am a cop and will be the first to tell you that I am NOT mechanical. I have, however, owned a few cars in my time and can tell when they need an alignment. Knowing this I went to tires plus and told them what I THOUHGHT the problem was and could they please check it out. THEY said that I should have an inspection done on the vehicle, which I agreed to. They came back and said to me that the car DID need an alignment and that the inspection came back good. They even test drove the car after and said that everything was fine. BULLCRAP!!!! The car drove no different whatsoever. It wasn't until I came back FOUR times in two weeks for a grand total of 12 hours that we found out what was really going on. All of a sudden all these new problems that thier so-called inspection missed turned up after....interesting. Then those MORONS manage to put new ball bearings on the wrong d**n wheel, but that's my fault right Joe? I NEVER told them anything, THEY told me what was wrong. I had no clue what trailing arms and CV boots were until they told me. Joe, I have no issue paying for a dianostic as long as that is what I get. I do have an issue with paying for an inspection that comes back clean and then not even a week later all these new problems show up. Now you tell me what's wrong with me having issues with that? Would you be alright with a plumber charging you to inspect your pipes, telling you that your pipes are good, and then you wake up in your own crap and piss? Because that is what happend to me, I was told that the car was good except for an alignment and then find out that the car was not good and needed repair. When I bring my car down and put money on the table I EXPECT an honest, accurate, expediant, and thorough repair, not some half assed BS. Oh yeah, one more thing not everyone that comes to a repair shop is clueless. My best friend, before becoming a S.E.A.L, got his ASE certification he brought his trans am to a shop and TOLD them what was wrong with it. He brought it down because it was a labor intensive job and he would of rather paid to have it done than do it himself. Next time read the d**n report before making yourself look stupid by jumping to conclusions.

The customer never wants to PAY to have the problem diagnosed. They always know excatly what they need. Just ask them. They ask everyone they know for a diagnosis of the complaint EXCEPT the mechanic who is the ONLY one qualified to give an intelligent estimate. Then, when the customers' brilliant repair requirement is WRONG, it's the mechanics' fault. Go figure. I have one guy who shows up after throwing fat cash at his problems and never gets the car fixed. Will he ever pay me $45 to tell him what it needs? Nope, never.

Jose, I'm glad to see that you are another armchair mechanic..LOL.. MAYBE if you had a clue to start with.. the car would have been fixed the first time! An ALIGNMENT would NOT fix a shimmy or a wobble if you had one.. That is almost always either a wheel, rim, brake, or drivetrain problem. Lets get real.. you probably made your own diagnosis, based on whatever you figure in your small brain.. and said "hey, I need an alignment".. Maybe you should have told them .. in the first place.. what problem you really were having..? Just a thought... -Joe the Tires Plus Tech ...maybe the CUSTOMERS are the morons?

I have to agree with the first couple. You two people, the managers wife and Frank, are wrong. I now live in Minnesota from the east coast and I am still getting used to the lax often annoying way that business is done here. I took my vehicle, a 2001 Olds Alero, to the tires plus store in Mankato, MN so that it could be aligned. I brought it there because they could align it that day. Now it did take them the better part of three hours to finish the job, but I said nothing since I had not made an appointment. When they did get done I began the ten minute drive home which includes a brief stint on the highway. Well, to my amazement, the car STILL shook the same way that it did BEFORE I brought it there. I called tires plus at once and informed them of this and they said to bring the vehicle back the next day. I should note that they had performed a fifteen dollar "inspection" the day that I intially brought the car down there and found nothing wrong. But now lo and behold the reason for the shimmy was that I had bad trailing arms in the rear which was making the car "dog track" down the road. So, I had them change the trailing arms but not that day because they did not have them. while I was waiting the week for the trailing arms my ball bearings in my right front tire went out, making a horrible noise. I again brought the vehicle down to tires plus. It should be noted that it was around 6 p.m. when the car was brought down and they close at 8 p.m. . Naturally I wasn't expecting them to be able to finish the job that night but was pleasantly surprised when they said that they could. When I recieved my car that night, the counter guy, said that they had screwed up and put the ball bearings on the wrong wheel so they had to change that and also that they had to make adjustments that they now did not have time for, as they needed to close the store. He informed me that I could bring the car down the next day and they would take of it, but in the meantime that all the idiot lights would be on and to just ignore them. I thanked him for his honesty and left. When I brought the vehicle down the next day I sat there for d**n near two hours because I just love waiting tires plus, NOT!! I did have an appointment by the way and it was thier screw up. So anyway they looked at the car said that everything was fine except that cv boot was spewing grease everywhere yet another thing that they missed in thier so-called thorough inspection. To make a long story short when I went back to get the trailing arms and cv boot done, I again had to watch my car sit outside for two hours for a scheduled appointment. Oh yeah everytime down there because it does NOT feel aligned there is some new issue that it wrong. Also, those d**n lights come every time the ground is wet, I told this to the idiot manager who said that he would say that to his mechanic. Well he never did becuase I told the mechanic when he drove the car up and then he knew what to do, of course this meant coming back the next day for another two hours. That store is the biggest bunch of morons that I have ever seen EVER!!!! So that first couple was on point and you two others need to stop deluding yourselves.

Angie, Quit lying and stick to the truth. You state that your husband repaired the vehicle in the original post.. yet, in your follow up, you said the repairs were performed by a certified mechanic. So, your husband is a certified mechanic, I would take it? Interesting.. very interesting.. And then, you mentioned that you purchased the parts at Auto Zone, then you state that they were NOT cheap parts. I'm sorry to inform you, but the parts that you purchased from AutoZone were NOT the same brand or quality that you would have gotten from ANY reputable shop, including Tires Plus. Auto Zone sells an inexpensive, inferior (to any name brand such as Dana, Moog, or TRW), private brand part. It is NOT a Urethane bushing such as a MOOG part would be. You get what you pay for, and apparently you wanted price over quality. Did you install camber sleeves as well? Did you get them from Auto Zone (they do not sell them)? Did you align the vehicle as well.. and get a warranty to boot? NOPE. Another know it ala labor charge of $200 is not unrealistic for radius arm bushings on an Explorer. If you look in any flat rate labor guide, you would see what the book time is.. and, right off of the top of my head, for just the camber sleeves, alignment, bushings, and alignment, you should be looking at approx. $480, plus any other work that might have been needed that your "certified" want-to-be-mechanic-with-wal-mart-tools husband probably did not understand how to do, or how to verify that it might have been needed. And, if you went to a shop in your hometown, and brought YOUR ball joints with you, you have BIG balls. Let me ask you a question. Would you walk into a Burger King and ask them to cook YOUR hamburger for you, if you had just purchased it from the grocery store down the street? I doubt it. Would they do it? Heck no! Do you get the point? Get a grip on reality. If you have truly been in the automotive industry, this all would make sense to you, especially that the cheap parts from Auto Zone are low quality, price point items. How do you know what the cost for a MOOG or DANA bushing is.. you mention the Auto Zone price.. but, did you call NAPA, or CarQuest, or a REPUTABLE parts supplier? NOPE!

Thank you for all your constructive comments. I do have a few things to add to my complaint. It becomes obvious to me that Frank and Amanda have taken this personal... and they shouldn't. I reread what I wrote and what Frank and Amanda wrote and it seems they did not read my "story". It is fine that other Tires Plus stores are good... that is why I used them, they had done right by me before. Frank, read a little closer, I did tell them what I knew ... and some things we did not find out until we took it apart ourselves. (Which we assumed since they were certified mechanics that they saw also.) I guess in your mind it is wrong that we were far from home and couldn't do the work ourselves. I will make no apologies for complaining, I called the company directly, the local Tires Plus and the corporate Tires Plus, they offered no apology. The only reason I wrote this on a website at all is so someone who is not lucky enough to "know", will not get taken. Any reasonable and intelligent human being will know that this is a complaint against the Tires Plus in Cookeville and only the Tires Plus in Cookeville. Frank, I did take it to another certified mechanic and had the work done. They wanted to replace parts that did not need to be replaced. Face it this Tires Plus screwed up and couldn't make it right. I am sorry you feel the need to take your anger out on me, my comments were true and even proven. I have since talked to several people who have had the same problem... unless you were the mechanic who looked at my truck and tried to overcharge me, get over it! If you are that mechanic then you aren't a very good one and I will be glad to call you on it! By the way Amanda, I am sorry you do not understand ... again I am not ripping on you, your husband or any local company, this company screwed up and then refused to admit it. I understand how the price mark up works, it is something I do every day. Obviously you do not. Cheap parts were not used, actually they were the same brand of parts that they would have used, having worked in the auto parts industry I am very familiar with how this all works. Again, I will not apologize for taking my truck in to a mechanic when I was so far from home with out a garage and tools to fix it ourselves. The whole situation was a bad one and had the truck actually needed $900 worth of repairs, this conversation never would have taken place... but it didn't! That is my point!

Sorry Angie. You purchased a used vehicle, and knowing you have front-end problems, have the nerve to suggest that a professional business is ripping you off. People like you make me sick. If you have the ability and personal knowledge, or your husband or friend or brother or nephews chicken or whatever, to do the repairs, why bother wasting some one else's time? How can you claim to get ripped off for asking for a particular service? You went in and asked for an alignment check because you new you had bad front end parts. As a mechanic myself, I can tell you that there isn't one company out there that can properly align a vehicle without first replacing loose or worn front end parts. Further more, for any company to tell you that they can, or you obnoxiously suggest that they do it anyway and just get it close is wrong and no favors are being done. When you bring a vehicle in for alignment with a body lift and or suspension lift, certain parts need to be changed. Parts in question would be, camber kits. If you recently purchased the vehicle with known front-end problems, how would a mechanic know that those parts, camber kits, were already replaced? Did you know? Did you tell him? NO. Keep in mind that without fixing loose or worn parts, you cannot do a proper alignment; therefore, you cannot run out heads and know that those parts were not needed. This is why they were suggested to you. This is what many years of experience has taught us in dealing with people that come in with front end problems on a raised vehicle. This is what you are paying for, Professional knowledge and peace of mind in knowing that things will be handled correctly. To say that they were trying to take advantage of you because you are from out of town is absurd. There is a nation wide warranty on whatever repairs are made. Parts and labor. Let me explain the process to you from a mechanics standpoint. If repairs are made on a vehicle that you feel weren't necessary, you can take that vehicle to ANY Tires Plus ANYWERE in the US. If they feel you are right, they will refund you the money in question, and they will back charge (take away that money) from the mechanic. So you see, it doesn't matter if you live a mile or a thousand miles away, we work for one company. There is no such fish in a barrel attitude in this company. Where you are from is never an issue. Addressing your concerns is.

I must agree with Angie on this. The TiresPlus in Cookeville does suck. I bought my tires from them for my truck a few years back and it came with free tire balance for as long as I own my truck. Everytime I would bring my truck over to have the tires balanced or even to have the oil changed took for 3 hours. I called a week ahead to make an appointment for my oil change and it still took them almost 4 hours to have the oil changed. That was the last time I have ever used them for anything. Most people in Cookeville know not to use them for any repairs, and more and more people are going somewhere else to buy their tires. I wish there was a way to let their corp. offices know how bad they really are.

I jsut wanted to write on this letter because after reading your garbage I was appalled that you would complain about something that you knew how to fix. I am married to a manager of Tires Plus, and I, as a woman know what it is like to walk into any place that can fix cars. I usually got the rake, so I understand what some people are talking about. First off, not ALL Tire Puls stores are out to get you and all your money. But I understand that people get angry and instead of using what the should use: THEIR BRAINS, they use their mouth. You said in your report that oh this was a 15.00 part and they tried to put it off as 67.00, good for you that you go out and buy some cheap parts and feel comfortable putting them on your car. For someone who can do their own oil change, do it yourself then! But these places have to have a certain percent above what it cost from the supplier and on top of that add labor charges. Most people know that its not the parts that cost the most, its the labor. But obviously instead of seeing the real picture you just want to rant and rave. I am sorry that in Tn you got screwed or what YOU think was screwed, but that doesnt mean that all stores are like that! I find it funny that you report goes on and on and doesnt make much sense, kinda like the illiterate mechanic, or so you say!
