Todd Von Stein fits the description of a sociopath/psychopath with no regard for the welfare of others. He will lie, cheat and steal without remorse, yet calls himself a Christian. He is by no means a great guy as described by others in past RipOff posts but is very calculating and manipulative. Todd Von Stein needs to be stopped. He learned his lesson in prison and will not illegally embezzle money again, but he will continue legal theft of not paying people for their services rendered. So far the court system has done nothing about it.

These allegations below are from long time former friends, acquaintances and colleagues of Todd Von Stein:
- Stole money from lockers in high school
- He has no education beyond high school despite what he may tell people about himself.
- Embezzled $140k from a former employer (records are on Iowa Courts Online) and spent about 4 years of a 10 year sentence in the Newton Iowa Correctional Facility
- Will think nothing of ripping off close friends or family and was allegedly punched by one of his own brothers 2-3 years ago over a house he designed & built.
- Walks with a slight limp from a high school
football knee injury, but the real truth that someone allegedly intentionally
broke his leg due to unpaid debts. - He was kicked off the East Village Board and The Sherman Hill Historic Neighborhood distanced themselves from him due to his bad reputation.
- He has been sued by dozens of people, businesses subcontractors and clients. Most people have never been sued once, let alone as many times that Todd has.
- Preys on women financially. He has a track record of befriending or dating women to help him financially or act as business partners. He describes himself as a Christian and makes sure there is a Bible or 2 lying around his office.
- When asked about his time in prison, Todd will have you believe HE was a martyr and
went to prison because of something someone else did or that he took the fall for someone elses wrong doing. - He will have you believe that he is the victim of past business partners and that THEY are to blame for his failures and subsequent bankruptcies.
- Todds spending habits and failure to pay his debts is the reason his previous companies Designstreet and Design Shoppe DBA Designsmith were declared bankrupt. He coerced
an associate to cash out a retirement plan and charge against a credit card to pay
off company debts (about $15k). He allegedly caused another business partner to declare PERSONAL bankruptcy in addition to a company bankruptcy. - He is very generous with other peoples money and lives lavishly by dining out daily, drinking the best wines ($20-$40+ per bottle) and alcohol (Grey Goose, Chambord and other high end liquor). He dines out 2-3 times daily. Every day. He often eats at local East Village establishments such as Alba, The Continental, and others and will maintain open bar tabs at The Locust Tap and The Underground. He frequently treats others to lunch and free drinks at bars. Do the math on thishow much is he spending on alcohol and food in a given week? month? year? Yet will not pay subcontractors, employees and others and will eventually drive his business into bankruptcy and repeat this same pattern with a new business partner.

Todd VonStein has yet another new business.
It is called VINTAGE MID MOD & VINO.
He is back in East Village, in Des Moines, IA. where he was sued for non-payment of rent.
He is on Floor 6 of the "Historic Teachout Building".
Apparently, this business is under either an assumed name or he's latched onto yet another business woman.
"Vintage" business women- BEWARE of this man. We cannot say it enough! Please take heed.

Todd Von Stein is following the same pattern concerning business and women with his new venture called
Salvage Studio Midwest.
Do not do business with this man!!!
He will attempt (or succeed) to destroy your business, finances, and reputation for his personal agendas.
Sometimes, he will continue to do business by aligning himself with the woman's name and the name of her business.
This man needs to be stopped!

I am one of the former employers as indicated in your report, and the author of report 547040. I am a single professional woman, raising my children alone. I am exactly the kind of person Todd Von Stein pray's on.
The one thing I would "correct" about the reports is that Todd Von Stein "sells" himself as a partner of whatever firm he is with, but in my case I was the SOLE owner of the firm and Todd was an employee - Manager. He did tell many people he was my partner, but didn't have any financial investment.
That was all mine, and yes, there are two of us who were force into both personal and business bankruptcy because some lines of credit require LLC's to personally guarantee things. This was done early on before I learned the truth about the person he really is. I tend to want to see the good in people. I had to realize that the devil does in fact exist and he doesn't come at you wearing red tights with horns. "Even the devil can quote scripture for his own purpose" - bumper sticker I saw once and thought instantly of Todd Von Stein.
I do not know who the author of this report is, but I would like to say thank you. We as citizens do have the opportunity to learn from our experience and try to protect others even if our County Attorney's and our detectives are unwilling to do the leg work. Thank you for taking the time to write what you know. Wishing you God's blessings and peace for your future. He has certainly blessed mine!

Todd Von Stein Arrested for Domestic Abuse

Apparently Todd Von Stein was arrested for domestic assault with a restraining order granted against him. Below is an article.
"The Wayne County Sheriffs Office arrested Todd Michael Von Stein, 45, of Humeston, on a charge of domestic abuse assault following an incident at a residence on North Fourth Street in Humeston. Von Stein appeared before the magistrate the following day and was released after posting bond."
