Our Maltese puppy was born on November 3, 1999.We purchased her on January 9, 2000 from Toy Puppies Inc. Myra of North Miami Beach, Fl.Shortly after taking possession of our female puppy, we were advised by our Vet that she had already undergone surgery for a Hernia. This fact was never disclosed to us prior to our selection and was the first of many surprises yet to come in her relatively short life.

At age 7, she was diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy in both eyes and lost her eyesight. We called Myra and informed her of this hereditary condition which was confirmed by a Veterinary Ophthalmologist. Myra denied all responsibility and ended the conversation.

Eighteen months later, she was diagnosed by a Veterinary Dermatologist with a major dermatology disorder and allergy which required extensive treatment and regular allergy shots. In the same year, she was also diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and required regular medication to control the thyroid function.

On December 6, 2010, she was diagnosed by a Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist with Congestive Heart Failure and an enlarged heart. This condition apparently was caused by a defective mitral valve. Two weeks later, she developed and ear infection and yeast infection in the right ear.

On Christmas morning at 4:00 a.m., December 25, 2010, our baby girl suffered a massive heart attack and passed away.

I'm sorry your dog passed away. She lived over 11 years that is not a short life for a dog.

Yes, some live longer but many people die too young also.

It is unfortunate she developed an eye condition at 7 years old but no one  can guarantee good health all their lives. 7 is past middle age for a dog  Her mom and dad, did NOT have eye problems or skin alergies.  I don't breed dogs with

problems. Poor breeding didn't cause  her problems, in your heart you know that.

I have been breeding dogs for almost 30 years, I carefully screen my breeders for inharent health problems and pull out of my breeding program any dog I think may be a potential problem.

You are welcome to ask my veterinarian, Dr Andrew levy at the Four Forty One Animal Hospital about my breeding program.

Every one is an individual and health problems don't discriminate, it can happen to anyone.

If you think two healthy parents can't have a child with health problems stop in at any childrens hospital, it will break your heart.

Animals and people are living things and we can only do the best we can to take good care of ourselves and our pets.  The rest is G-ds hands.

I understand you are hurting at the loss of your pet so you blame me, I wish I was magic and could make all the dogs and people well.
