Toyota's Certified used vehicles can be misleading. It states to affect that the vehicles maintenance is current. It does not state that the vehicle has had all of its maintenance.

When such a thing is not obvious to a consumer and not clearly explained prior to purchasing a vehicle, then it can be considered misleading, even a rip off.

When I buy a used vehicle, I only consider vehicles that have a full maintenance record. After I bought a Toyota Certified vehicle and ran into thousands of dollars of repairs, did the dealership manager explain this to me.

I feel this obviously misleads consumers on a mammoth scale.

I have owned Toyota vehicles for over twenty years and held them in the highest regard, now I doubt I would buy another one. Pass on the warning to others.

for a 2005 Corolla! My lord, why didn't he buy a NEW Corolla? Because he NEVER DID HIS HOMEWORK! And our wise and thoughtful one-note buddy Karl will blame Toyota.

Toyota is going to close the tundra plant down for 90 days here in San Antonio and pay all 2000+ workers during those 90 days. The American auto workers get paid by their unions if their plants get shutdown. Some of those union workers haven't seen the inside of a plant in 5 or 10 years yet are still getting paid by their unions. WHY anyone would buy a used vehicle is beyond me. With the economy being as bad as it is, they're giving deals on just about every vehicle out there. It makes NO sense to buy a used vehicle esp on the larger vehicles. Lord, they're selling NEW ford XLT expeditions for $24 to $26,000 that retail for $34 to $38,000. I see the same USED vehicle for $26 to $28,000. The used vehicle are usually sold to the credit challenged. They're selling those ford pick ups for $10 to $12,000 off of MSRP with rebates and incentives. Posted last week about that big dodge pick up that retails for $32,000. Some guy posted here a couple of months ago about how he paid $28,000 and I posted about how they were selling here for $18,000 at the same time and he got ripped off. Two weeks ago they were selling that truck for $14,995. $17,000 off of retail. The "deals" aren't as great on the smaller vehicles, but are still there.

Why are you buying USED Toyotas, Rax?

Toyotas depreciate at 14.5% a year, and "Certified" vehicles are usually of fairly recent vintage. "Certified" vehicles may also have been Leased Vehicles, and people who lease vehicles are often not very fussy about routine maintanence because they will dump the vehicle before the wages of deferred maintanence come due. Buy your Toyotas (and/or Hondas) NEW, for heaven's sake. Buying used is false economy. You CAN save money buying new. You can mail, email, or FAX your requests for quotes to several dealers for the SAME car. Competition yields lower prices. Heck, I have bought a NEW Toyota for slightly less than the price of a 1-year-old comparable USED Toyota! People ASSUME that they will save money buying their cars used. This is not necessarily true in the long run.
