I contacted several moving companies leading up to my move from a one bedroom, to a two bedroom apartment in Toronto. This company offered the most extras , so far as services and had the cheapest quote. I scheduled them and all seemed fine.

On the day of the move they arrived an hour early and in a rickety, yellow truck, with graffiti on the side. They made me sign a contract that stated that stated that there may be extra charges involved with the move, depending on how long it took, etc. and that my stuff would not be delivered until the final amount was paid. I expected it to be more than a mere $160 and so I was even prepared to pay double the amount. However, once all of our stuff was prepared, I was presented with a "bill", written on the back of a piece of paper, of the final amount owing, which added up to $890 and included a 2 hour transportation fee, even though I was moving five minutes down the street and tonnes of hidden extra fees that were not mentioned to me before, nor were even addressed on the contract. This was my "receipt"...a piece of paper with some pen marks on it.

When I complained about this price, the movers told me to take it up with the guy that gave me the quote.

Without having a choice, I gave the extra money and they delivered the furniture (scratching several objects and denting some tables along the way).

I was never once rude or even stern with the movers. We even offered them pop and water and the use of the washrooms. All of which they happily accepted.

I contacted the quoter, a sales representative (or so his title stated) right away, on the day of the move and explained that I felt cheated and wanted to give them the opportunity to make amends. I waited three days for a reply and received nothing.

My next step was to contact them back, once again explaining my outrage and warning them that I would post a note on kijiji about their services, if they did not reply. They still made no reply, so I posted the ad.

I was very upfront with the company and sent them the link. They had kijiji remove the link, even though it did not violate any of their policies.

I have since looked up some news reports and it seems that this is a common scam, sometimes resulting in much worse consequences then what happened to us. Since these guys seem to operate under several names, I now realize that they indeed fit the bill as scam artists. Although I have contacted them about ten times, they have neglected to return any messages or emails.

Do NOT use this moving company! They will only rip you off. They are obviously not looking for customer retention or word of mouth references, but a quick buck, by scamming vulnerable people. They should be avoided!
