I went to the Transunion website to get my credit report - I clicked on the free trial to get my report and like an idiot gave them all my information. After the site acted like it was pulling up my information a pop window said there was an error and I had to call customer servce...this is AFTER I had entered all my credit card information etc..When I called they asked to verify my info - I answered a lot of questions until I suddenly felt suspicious so I asked to talk to a supervisor. They left me on hold for about 5 minutes, came back and said I there was no one available. I said I signed up for your free trial and I'd like to cancel that. They told me only a manger could do that for me.

Then it dawned on me that this has to be a scam. So I got off the phone and immediately called my bank. There was already 2 charges by them - for only $1 each...but I think they were testing my account by doing that. I immediately changed my account etc. But I did some research and a lot of people have been scammed out of money from these guys. Here's the site I went to but I know it comes up as many different things: truecredit.com

Anything with True Credit and Transunion on it.

I did some additional research. This issue is specically with the San Louis Obispo site (although other truecredits across the country have also had complaints) - if you sign up for the one month "free trial" - you get can wrapped up in what I am calling a scam. Essentially, once you sign up it is very difficult to get out of it at all. You can be transferred to customer service who will not be able to cancel your subscription, whether or not you ever get your report (i never did get mine). Additionally they have given credit card information to other companies that charge your account. There are over 600 reports to the Better Business Bureau on this company since March of 06. Although the BBB still gives it a B rating. If you simply google truecredit, scam; you will read about many others who have experienced the same thing that happened to me. My other big concern is how and why a company like this can be tied in with a major credit reporting agency - in the end creating a very difficult situation for people who are trying to protect themselves and suddenly end up in a scam.

The ONLY place online to get all three of your free annual credit reports as provided for by law is: annualcreditreport.com That is the only official recognized site.

Tina, I have used that service. There are two differnet screens that you may get. One is the one where they try to upsell you to the report with scores and an annual subscription. This is because credit scores ARE NOT provided with your free annual credit report. The other screen telling you that you must call customer service is because the address you are using when you order, is not one that is listed on your credit report, and further verification is needed to prove who you are. I now use a third party provider where I get all three of my credit reports with scores, and also alerts anytime someone checks my credit or reports anything new to it. Well woth it for only $12.95/month. I can stay one step ahead of the debt collectors! The $1 charges are done by each of the three credit bureaus just to validate your card before releasing the reports, to guarantee payment for the extras you ordered.

Tina I also went to Transunion for my free credit report and like you saw this confusing screen come up. The screen looked like one that you had to fill out prior to getting your report. This is confusing to anyone like myself that has never logged on before to get my report. I moved on and realized this was there attempt to sign me up for some lousy uneeded service, I skipped the screen and it led me to the one that actually does give you a free report with no CC information needed. By law each of the three credit agencies must give you on free report. Transunion has set up their operation to be confusing this is no accident so they can do what they did to you. They suck.
